Decent Insurer for Non Lotus?

Post by mrbennybennett » Thu Nov 10, 2011 10:53 am

Anyone got any decent ideas?

Last year had the Lotus, Clio and girlfriends Mini Cab on the Admiral Multicar Policy - all in it was about £950ish

Renewal is in and is now £1,450 ish so have decided to stick the Lotus with CCI for the TD cover - quote is £150 cheaper than admiral !

not sure who to try for the clio and mini - done the usual Confused.com crap and that wasn't any cheaper also tried direct line - again not great

Do the likes of Richard Eggar cover "normal" cars??

Any other ideas much appreciated

Cheers

Can't help too much, but I've noticed that while my Elise continues to drop insurance-wise, the S8 took a hike last year - even checking the compare sites and doing some phone haggling with current insurer. Ended up with Admiral again for the S8, CCI for the Lotus.

Swift have also been very good for me. Helps if a few years no claims as some friends got poorer quotes for 'perceived' higher risk.

Admiral HALVED my renewal when i queried it.

I did an individual quote on their site for the panda and primera, found them both to be cheaper than the multicar quote - then did a quote on multicar for my neighbour and then called armed with those stats.

£1800 to £900something.

Do your research, call them up and hit them with the "i'm so disappointed" line and you might be surprised :thumbsup
i3s, Volvo and more pushbikes than strictly necessary.

....did i ever tell you about the Evora and VX220 i used to own?

I tried that and 'next doors quote' was about £150 cheaper but still no where near as cheap as insuring 3 cars separately and they weren't interested in matching the multi quote to 3 separate quotes.

From memory my neighbour was £500 cheaper, but when i had the chat they were actually amazingly helpful......although to be clear i was comparing their multiple quotes with individual quotes from Admiral.

I am sure these things must go in cycles, but at the moment I have cover on a couple of cars with Aviva by going through their website.

I am with admiral and they are cheap (if nothing else) I will change next year however as they have an issue with Ann and my new car.

I've just moved my non-Lotus to Swift Cover - paid about half of what my renewal quote had been from eCar. Just noticed I could have got cashback through Quidco too

Managed to get an online quote over £200 less than my renewal quote from Admiral - so called up they said they would match it then knocked off another £45 :)

Even though i had phoned them up on Friday proir to this saying i had better quotes from Aviva at about £750, but they said they were not willing to drop below their current quote of £960

Why they have to fanny you about in the first place really pi55es me off

So Mini and Clio still with Admiral for £706 and the Elise with CCI for £408

Happy with that as the renewal quote was about £1,450

I think it was Admiral last year who wanted photos of the garage as they could not see it on google maps or street view...

I have just had a client telling me about " top cash back .co .uk " as a great means of getting insurance (amongst other things) cheap. It came up in conversation as I asked how he managed to get full comp insurance on his fiat for £90!!! I have no idea how the website works, or if it's any good, but thought it would be worth investigating. :thumbsup
