just been putting the car back together to get it back on the road for spring. called Henderson Taylor to renew my insurance and its gone up nearly £200 and they wont cover me for track days!! apparently its all the fault of under 40's binning elises. of course im blaming my 34yo bro who wrote off his elise last year. cheers min!

now what? who else will cover an under 40 with a honda'd elise and inc td's?

Normally I would recommend Competition Car Insurance, but I have recently heard that they have also stopped covering under 40 year olds.. will make my renewal next year interesting  . They may still be worth a try.

The other option would be REIS - I have no experience personally, but they get a good rep. See the Insurance section of the forum :thumbsup

Give Mary a call on 0115 965 1020.

I have been with them for years with no claims, but mine went up £100 last year, mainly due to claims in windscreens, and excess for them went up to £100.

Actually that was across the board for claims, I did not have one last year, but normally one or two depending on where we go for road runs.

I've heard a few people mention Mannings. Haven't tried them myself as Exiges seem to be okay with HT :-D

I have just insured my Exige S with Competition Car Insurance, I'm 26 and my fiance (25) is a named driver, covered for 6 track days, 6k miles, protected NCB and it is £690 which I think is good. £150 cheaper than Admiral were offering even after their last ditch attempts to keep my custom.
If you join SELOC for about £12 per year you get a discount which was worth it for me.
I cant fault the service from CCI.

I have read elsewhere that the Exige isn't affected by this policy change, only the Elise.

Tis a funny one, I was £650 on my S1 Exige back in the day and almost £2k on an elise.

Well lucky me, mines is due to renew on 16th of April and I'm insured with CCI as I have been for the past 3 or 4 years. I called to check and its true, for any Lotus Elise you have to be over 40 before they can insure you. Reasoning is that almost 30% of claims made where under 40's in an Elise and they made a loss over 2 years and they have pulled the plug.

Phoned and spoke to Mary who was more than helpful and even commented on how much a character Tut is, giving me a decent price of £500 for Holly and I on the Elise. It's a bit more than CCI and £53 extra if I want track day cover but could have been worse. I'll bear that in mind do a bit of shopping but happy that's the worst case after the bomb shell dropped about CCI. They explained they would send a letter to me soon to explain, but reminded me its on Elise, the exige, evora etc are all okay! Not much use when I only have an Elise!

I guess used Exige prices are quite a bit higher than the S1 Elise hence more likely that under 40's can afford them.
