Axa & LV, two to avoid...
Renewal through from CCI has gone up from £275 to £327, so doing the usual compare the market exercise.
Got an unbelievably low quote (£129.47) from Swinton for insurance with AXA. However, on reading the policy, it is stated:
"You must do all you can to protect your car and keep it in a roadworthy condition. If you do not do this your right to claim under your policy may be affected.
You must:
ensure the car is locked, windows, including sunroofs are closed, and any required security devices are activated and all keys and keyless entry system devices are removed when the car is left unattended." the list continued..
I asked the broker about this, and gave the example of popping into a shop and leaving the roof off. He said as the car is not secure, it is not covered.
LV policy states:
"We will not pay a claim if your car is left unlocked, or with the keys in it or with a window or roof open."
Seems pretty clear too.
I guess you get what you pay for with insurance, but at least it is possible to see the policy before you buy these days.

unless your keys have been stolen in a housebreaking any theft using the keys is on a sticky wicket.

I think the point is more about the roof being off.
I can understand theft FROM a vehicle with the roof off, but if the alarm is on and the immobiliser activated then the car is just as secure as it is with a canvas roof being on.

From Aviva policy now in place:Lazydonkey wrote:I think that's standard on most policies to be honest.....
"Exclusions to Section 1
We will not pay for:
loss or damage arising from theft while:
(a) the ignition keys of your car have been left in or on your car
(b) your car has been left unattended with the engine running."
It would be nice(naïve maybe) to believe that common sense would prevail. If my bag is nicked from the open vehicle, then perhaps I was asking for it. If someone steals the car (say with a recovery vehicle), what difference would the roof make? I paid extra for the cobra alarm, which has a motion detector so I could have a bit of extra protection when the car is parked with the roof off.

About to start a trawl myself, my CCI renewal has just gone from £320 to £510 yet the renewal on my same age 111r in May with CCI more or less stayed around £300.
Thanks for heads up, it is all these conditions and exclusions you have to be wary of along with the hassle of going round getting a 1st quote then doing the update with each to get a best offer.

Is Elise theft a real problem? Personally I would not agonize about these types of exclusions. I suspect they are quite hard to enforce and we all know how easy it is to remove Elise roof without the keys ... so who removed the roof, you, or the thief?
