Road policy cancelled if car used on track

I remember a story from a while back that some insurance companies would cancel road policies if you used your car on track. Story was people who used their cars at Knockhill had received letters cancelling their insurance.

Was there any truth in this?

Reason I ask is I will want to use my car on track, so until I can change to someone like REIS ( assuming they don't need a tracker) will have to get single day policy which could be expensive. Current insurer is also new for old in the first year.

If the car is worth more than £40k then CCI, REIS and One Answer all require a tracker

Certainly for the exige anyway, I'm getting one fitted on Saturday

Will give them a call tomorrow to see what their requirements are. How much is a tracker fit if you don't mind me asking ?

Fitting for tracker is £149 then £149 subscription a year or £299 for lifetime subscription. That is for tracker monitor, Tracker locate is more but you can track your car in real time.

Does tracker have an app or page showing where you've been since tracker has been installed by date for example?

Using a car on track is using it on private property. While I can understand them not covering the car on track I can't see it being possible for this to invalidate the road insurance in normal use.

If you have a tracker fitted does this mean that the tuts at which an accident occurs would be considered by an insurer?

My thinking exactly.

Spoke to REIS today, very helpful and knowledgeable.

Tracker has to be CAT 5 and they have an approved list.

I don't meet the experience requirements for track day cover so will have to wait a year.

That was my understanding unless there was a specific exclusion clause in the insurance.

Exactly; and once there is such a clause, it would be binding ... I agree it might not make sense, but if the clause is there then you best honour it.

Cheers,

I'm with Manning insurance for my car which when new was over 40k, track day cover all included and I don't need a tracker etc. Just a thought as another provider... I've been to knockhill a couple of times during my first year with the Elise S and checked with Manning each time just incase. All good so far...
