My s3 Landy was £85 to insure one year!
Elise is about £250, 700bhp v10 rs6 £450, POS 2004 Shogun £509. Clio 182 £280. How the hell does that work?
I fundamentally hate insurance companies. Turds.
An Elise for £177?

Re: An Elise for £177?
My Ultima was £290 last year.
After I got it back having put a £29k dent in it last August the renewal came in at £320.
A wee bit of shopping around and haggling brought that down to £260.
Strange game!!

The wonders of "protected no claims"?
Re: An Elise for £177?
No, I have never bothered with that. Just a quirk of the "computer says..." model the insurance companies seem to use with rare and unusual cars I think. It hasn't really effected my other premiums very much (which was a relief) EXCEPT for my MX5 insurance which went up 10% which the insurer directly attributed to my fault claim on the other car. Thankfully, 10% was only £16 quid or so.
Like I say, it is a strange game.

Re: An Elise for £177?
I think that's probably key. They will have the stats down pat for something like a Diesel Astra, but give them something unfamiliar and a bit unique and you just have to go round the houses until you get a number you like. They will all be shooting in the dark.
It is an utter scam though and it's about bloody time it was properly regulated - why should they be in the position to invent numbers and not give any justification whatsoever. A standardised formula that they add their margin to would not be easy, of course, but it's not impossible.
