I wasn't aware we'd implemented an RSS feed, but I may be wrong...

Consider it requested 8)

No need for everyone to post asking for it now (just pre-empting ;)) as I'll have another natter with Mr Sysadmin Ironside about the possibilities and look at implementing ASAP if possible.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS_(file_format)

Basically, you can update a background desktop widget with new posts, even if you're not on the SE page.

I had initiated some thinking on RSS feeds a few months ago but it all died off.

Essentially it means that programs like Google Desktop, Windows Live Mail, Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc etc etc, can be set up to notify you (to varying degrees of usefulness) of new material published on a site, in this case Scottish Elises.

The BBC, amongst a myriad of other content providers, now offer RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds on their main publications so that you are notified whenever new news articles, web pages, threads, or whatever, have been published.

Kinda like old newsgroups meets modern mail notification systems. Only more controllable. Also become very popular on the back of "blogging", whereby you can generally subscribe to people's or organisations' blogs and get a nudge on your computer whenever they are updated.

I use Windows Live Mail at home and Feedreader at work to pick up RSS feeds of interest. But there are lots of other apps and hopefully some RSS Junkies here will offer some recommendations!

Funnily enough I was on MSN with Si about this the other night. It's in testing - be patient - so many frigging plugins to choose from, we're just making sure it's stable and has the best functionality 8)

Sanjoy, are you running Windows 7 Beta?

Are there a lot of differences from Vista?
