TSE Top Shed Challenge - the plan

Post by Dominic » Tue May 05, 2009 1:41 pm

This will probably evolve a bit, but so far;

(cross posted from http://www.scottishelises.com/phpbb/vie ... 48&start=0 )

I have been doing some research into things, and checking out available events etc. So, I am now trying to pull together a callendar of events and some rules.

I have taken all the feedback and suggestions and tried to come up with a decent plan. A few folk have suggested doing the event all in one weekend. However, that would require a lot of organisation, it would be far easier to use existing events, and simply enter them. There will need to be a fair bit of organisation as it is, so with a view to keeping things simple, and legal, I am working on the following proposal. The dates are never going to suit everyone, but by spreading the 'challenge' over several dates, hopefully each team member should make at least a few of the events. I have looked at trackday dates etc, and tried to come up with a reasonable list of dates;

First event; 4th June, Thurs, Test night at Kames - The challenge will not involve track timing, but points will be awarded; task to be announced (there are a few things in the mix, but I need to clarify with the MSA that we'll be okay without a permit)(If thurs night too difficult for folk, then we can look at some options)... will require to be a club member, which will also cover future events;

28th June; Road run, measuring reliability, MPG, and some treasure hunt style clue solving, and a pub lunch / BBQ along the way.

12th July; Grass test (Near Kames), official MSA licenced timed event. (no requirement for any competition licence, or overalls etc, just need to be a club member)

22nd Aug; Autotest, (Glasgow Area), as above, MSA licenced, no saftey gear required, and previous mentioned membership will be valid.

I will start another thread, to get teams organised.

Teams will have until the end of May to get themselves together, and buy their car. The sooner the team is established, the more time they will have to get a car.

Everyone would seem to be happy with a max budget of £500.

In order to allow every team member to have a chance of entering as many of the events as possible, there will be a maximum of 5 per team.

For ease, all cars should be driven to and from events; not everyone will have a tow car / trailer. Each team can decide if all will be insured for road use, or one nominated road driver.

Cars should be MOT'd and taxed;- need not be at time of purchase, but will need to be for the first event, so you may as well buy wisely. Any costs for getting the car through an MOT should be built into the £500 budget. Reciepts & MOT's (inc date) will be checked.

After August, sell the cars, ready for any profit made to go to AMP3 charity day.

We will throw in some minor challenges along the way too, which will be annouced as we go along (man in white coat with envelope, top-gear stylee).

Some competitive elements will require a judge. I have one volunteer so far, any more non competing volunteers would be welcome.

And there will be a special mystery prize for the winners!

Just to point out also, as Dom was on the phone to me about this (brainstorming, or something) - you may notice it's a bit west-oriented, so apologies to the easties, but it works in such a way that membership of one car club (for example EACC) will get you access to all the motorsport events. Glasgow Autotest will invite EACC to allow this. Keeps costs down, as it's supposed to be a budget challenge.

Also to point out that all cars should be put up for sale at the end (you'll not be able to win without points from a sale :)) - so that should alleviate anyone valuing an existing car at sub-£500, unless they want to get rid of it for that sort of money!

Cheers for that Shug.

There is probably loads i have missed out.

I was thinking of the road run being based more towards the north east to try and swing the geographical balance a bit :thumbsup
