my first sprint

Well I thought I would give it a go as it was so local.

Turned up on Saturday for practice, was a nice sunny day and after going the wrong way in my first practice I was soon on the pace and my last to laps were within a couple of 10th’s of each other (low 55) so was getting consistent without pushing 100%. I was also 1.5 seconds quicker then the class record )

Woke up Sunday, they got the forecast correct pi55ing rain. I found a quiet roundabout on the way out to Alford and had a little play with my variable traction control.

We got a practice run (still pi55ing down)and with all the toys I was one of the fastest cars out there.

1st run It was still raining but it was just drizzle and there was less puddles on track. I was pushing fairly hard but wanted to get a banker. Job done think I got a 62 something.

Sub 60 was in the bag if I got a good smooth run.

2nd run was going really well when I just pushed it a bit hard on the cross over and lost the back end, got a big tank slapper and lost a lot of time. Ended up with a 60.7 won the class by a couple of seconds (I think?) and only .5 off the A6 class win. Was really pissed off as I think there was only about 5 people under the 60 second mark.

Really enjoyed my day, thanks to Ali for the tips and to Eric for all his help.

Yes A8, someone did throw there toy's out the pram. I think if they had to move me then they would have to move the Exige, VX turbo, Morgans, Nobel's, TVR's etc.

No, next up for me is Fintray hillclimb the following weekend. Not surprised someone spat the dummy, funny though I was told last year that the 2-11 wouldn't be eligible so knocked it off my shopping list. Might have to consider sticking it back on instead of what I am considering

BTW nobles don't fit in A8 nor do Ariel Atom's, neither are "marques" as far as the regs go.

ps just realised that your times were in the wet if Saturday was only practice, so your wet times would be a fair bit higher than his Class record.

That engine that I almost bought a few years ago for N1, even put a deposit on it, would have been the ideal A8 car.

Came out of an Atom project, S/C K engine with 295hp.

No no not at all, thinking of going single seater bike engine jobbie not next year but the one after, 2011 season. Planning stages just now, need to learn to drive the car i've got first .

tut's right if they do deem the 2-11 as eligible in A8 then you've probably killed the class from a championship POV. Unless someone wants to spend 40k and can drive better than you, nothing that runs in A8 that I've seen the last couple of years will get anywhere near a 55 at Alford. The class record is/was 56.51 so you've moved it on nearly 2 secs
Even a 295bhp Elise won't get down there that easily. The 2-11 is alot lighter than an Elise and not that much down on 295.
GB could probably get close but think he's pretty much maxed with the Exige at Alford so might trim a 1/2 sec but you never know with Greame, he's well cagey when it comes to sprinting (bet he's reading this as well, go on Greame surprise me......post !!)

S1 elise and a 2-11 are about the same weight.

Must admit it's a skill if your just trying to beat you last record, trying to get full points but thinking of next year.

I screwed that up my first time at Kames Scotty.

Ali did a 95.23 which would have been the new record, I just drove as fast as I could for a 91.21, whereas with experience I would have been watching the clock at the finish line and just beaten Ali's time and we would have still got the full 32 points, which is what you are always aiming for.

Good job Scotty, I would expect nothing less . . . we'll be at Kames in Aug . . . you should do a Doune this year also, much more fun than any other event . . . I think you would enjoy it.

The wet fairly flattens the field tho, even I can catch and beat A6 times (for example) . . . and I have 1/2 the power and only my right foot doing TC . . . Golspie this year being a prime example on Saturday . . . the dry is somewhat different with the fastest guys getting well into single seater territory . . . Boyndie they were into the 62's, A8 was in the 70s, and I don't think we ever saw a report from the A8 class winner on the Sunday did we ?

Shame they ran Alford as a two day event, else you would have reset the class record on the Saturday . . . ;-(

Kames should be interesting and a good laugh, you should be as fast as or faster than my times I would think, but the time spread at Kames tends to be quite small across the field . . .
