Well that was a late one :-/

Rebuilt the rear uprights in thick ply after shakedown showed them flexing (!). Thanks Woody!

Shortened the chassis side rails to allow a better turning circle.

Rebuilt the front axle steering pivot with broader plates / washers (thanks Ferg!)

Experimented with steering self-centering, aka bungee straps LOL.

Worked out a braking concept. But that is def for later.

Strengthened the fixings for the chassis backbone to cross members.

Yawn. Next shakedown tomorrow.

Good efforts Campbell - although I'd say good castor angle would be a better way to self centre than some bungee... :D

Is that the diff between distances across leading edges and trailing edges of 2 wheels?

Sort of. Not sure how you'd build it into your steering set up though.

Also not sure what I contributed, but you're welcome.

Are you using a single central steering pivot point? I think you could put some castor into that setup by moving the pivot forward of the line of the front axle. You probably don't want too much as it will get a bit 'swingy' to steer.

I like ths bungee concept for single pivots return to centre... :thumbsup

We have begun, I drew this out to Scottish cartie regs. No welding, going to be bolted to 18mm marine ply. IKEA plan, I might have to prep some bits tho

Not sure we will make the day, but Loon was loving the assembly... Should get steering assembled tonight, has castor and offset kingpin.

Yep central pivot, currently in line with axle. Not impossible to change but fair list of further essentials / refinements / luxuries to tackle first. In that order!!

Shakedown #2 tonight was very successful. Several laps of the Team FMC test track loop and revised uprights are good. One wheel at jaunty angle cos I can't drill straight but that's character.

Seat mounting next.

Then brakes :-)

Our Design Studio has also commenced styling work. Batman theme here too, Ferg. Costumes have arrived =8-o

Coach work looks like being next week. At worst, I'll slap some bat stickers on it and dock Lisa's fee, lol.

Just did a bit of Googling and did you know there is a race series for soap box derby in the UK and there is a Scottish cartie association. This is serious stuff, there is a Halloween race in Brechin later in the year.
