  We're gonna need bigger brakes

I'd had half an eye on the Scottish Cartie stuff if G really enjoys it. Would need to to do a mk2 I reckon though :blackeye

I reckon you could use the frame from Mk1 as a template for the carbon composite tub for mk2. :D

Exactly the same Ferg

I am going for centre pull brakes from old BMXs, which have stopping power but not masses. Tyre size and pressure will help with that. So super narrow tyres ie road allow quick acceleration but stopping and turning is compromised. We have BMX wheels (loon rides BMX anyway, so going for 2 inch semi slicks. Give us more stopping.

Disc brakes the obvious choice, but all mine are for MTB wheel sizes, BMX disc specific hubs are dear, I intended relaxing a hybrid wheel wth MTB hubs with disc mounts onto BMX rims, problem is spoke holes differ, MTB generally 28-36, whereas BMX is generally 48. Costs were getting silly but I managed to buy 4 BMX front wheels for £100 which I can always use

I'd love to do disks but the only way I can see to do it is with disk hubs. Might have a shot at making some if we were to do it again.

I had issues with our caliper brakes today. Turns out rear brakes don't fit front forks. Obvious when you think about it. More parts searching required.

remember guys,

you are all more than welcome to come along to the castle from Saturday tea-time to shake down the carties on the actual course and get in some sneaky practice. Ill be there to talk through the Derby as will my Soapbox MC - and we are laying on a BBQ for the volunteers/ marshals - so there will be food and drink available to buy as well.

entering the home straight now..... stress levels have now stabilised as we realise that there is little left we can do to influence the inevitable Event this weekend. 12 months of planning are behind us which we are confident of - so please just bear with us and see you at the weekend!

So we have brakes.

Well, "a" brake. But it works. Even downhill!

We've already upgraded the lever since this shot was taken - Shakedown #4 & #5 revealed some weak points.

Like Tony, not much more we can do before Sunday now. Some refinements (one of my homemade bearings went a bit weak...some steering castor would be nice), and coachwork to pretend it's a Batmobile. And I'm spent!!!

I've used pretty much every power tool I own. The circular saw is essential... :-D
