Right then, what spares would be worth carrying?
Re: Ok then, what do I NEED to do to the car, and me
I'll try and pop over to the Kames rounds at least to give you a hand

Re: Ok then, what do I NEED to do to the car, and me
Vic, will see you at some of them for me this years events I am home for are
12th April Kames
9th & 10th May Fintray (if your home for this I've got a spare room in the house if you need it 2mins form the track)
24th May Kames
4th & 5th July Boyndie (same spare room but not as close, an hour away)
1st & 2nd Aug Kames
8th & 9th Aug Fintray
12th & 13th Sept Golspie
19th & 20th Sept Boyndie
The GAC championship is made up of Fintray and Boyndie rounds so concentrating on them. Will do at least the Kames double header but not sure about the one events.
Edit: As a first timer at Boyndie you will get half price entry, at least they did last year for GAC events. You should do Fintray being the easiest of the hillclimb events, short hill 3 corners, at least give you a taste of what they are like.

I will definitely be doing Fintray as it is less than a mile from the house so look forward to seeing you there. Be in class A8 again and parked next to the start line.

Re: Ok then, what do I NEED to do to the car, and me
Will take you up on the offer of the lodging for the rounds I'm home for, will need to check the dates for the hills... don't want to squander my day passes too much.. SWIMBO has first dibs on the spare weekends.. that was the deal at the end of last year.
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

18th/19th April - Doune
9th/10th May - Fintray
20&21 June - Doune
27th/28th June - Forrestburn
29th/30th August - Forrestburn
26&27 September - Doune.
The second two Doune events aren't double headers but are held over both day (Practice Sat - Timed Sun) as they form part of the British Hillclimb championship. All the others are double header events so you can enter one, other or both.

Had a look at tyres again, looking to get a set ordered later in the month... now then...Mikie711 wrote:There will be no cahnge to the tyres you can use next year in Scotland it is going to remain as is. This means you can run either list 1A or 1B tyres.
John,
these are the tyres I was talking about
http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php? ... b102s699p0
These are the only tyres available in 185 section and in 3 different compounds. They come as the usual 225 rears but neither Toyo or Yokahama produce a 185 front so you have to fit a 195 section to a 5.5" instead of a 6" rim.
And the soft ones are Very sticky and heat up quickly, I will be running a set of these next year soft on the front and medium rears.
The blue book lists in 1b ECSTA KUMHO V700 but the tyres Kamskil sell are ECSTA KUMHO V70 A
So are the ECSTA KUMHO V70 A legal?

Will be ordering tyres soon. May have an option of soft 888's at cost from a local firm.. will find out about the Khumo's but checked again the 1b list and they aint on it....

Confused... will need to ask someone from the championship committee thingy... off to flat chat...

Re: Ok then, what do I NEED to do to the car, and me
Having spoken at length to one of my fellow competitors... about tyres, shocks, the meaning of life and fridge freezers.. I am going with the Toyo option. As for the rest of the set up, I will be trying to get as close to what Chris Randle has suggested as possible.
So here is the target set up and summary of the spec.
Toyo 888's
195/50-15 Soft front, (fitted on std S1 wheel, 5.5j not optimum but close enough for me)
225/45-16 Medium rears.
Hot pressure 28-29 psi, monitored by Hofmann's supplied TPMS system
Ride height 100/110
Front springs 550lbs with 40lbs helpers
Rear springs 750lbs with 40lbs helpers
Dampers valved as per "Hofmann's" spec
Rear toe link kit from elise shop set up to give slightly more toe in under compression than standard Lotus curve.
AP racing front discs, steel drive flanges
Elise parts ali bell rear discs
Hofmann's sintered metal brake pads, (balance with a higher friction coefficient on the rear)
Engine spec.
Kiwi Rog head based on std head with +2mm inlet valves.
Piper 270 cams and verniers. Timed by Robin the Jedi Master himself.
Uprated oil rail. Elise parts sump baffle.
58mm throttle body from a rover tomcat. 3" alloy hard piped (insulated) air feed pipe with 8" pipercross foam cone filter mounted in wheel well.
Factory Janspeed exhaust manifold, 2bular exhaust.
Factory catalyst...
(required by the regulations, may look at a sports cat later)
Factory close ratio box.
Uprated elise parts alloy radiator.
Lotus motorport race seat with schroth harness.
Radio removed and blanking cover fitted, speaker removed, carpets
removed.
And thats pretty much it.

Not sure yet. Shocks have still to arrive and Camskill still to get back to me on the Tyres. So apart from that it's ready. Think it's going into Falkland for the geo. Unless there is someone who knows the string method that would willing to set it up for me.Andy G wrote:finally - now when is it going to have it debut???

Re: Ok then, what do I NEED to do to the car, and me
Factory catalyst? Unless things have changed dramatically, they would have no idea if a CAT was fitted, especially in an Elise with an undertray. My car never had one.
Standard routine was check your race suit and bone dome, give you stickers and that was it for the season, look to see if there was an engine in there somewhere, laugh at your Maxsport re-treads then say fine, double take the bare feet then go through the blue book, ring MSA HQ, finally give up.

Change of regs for 2009.. All cars after a certain date must use a catalyst... assuming that a "new" regulation will be looked at, better have one fitted.tut wrote:Factory catalyst? Car going down to Dan for the Geo after I fit the shocks.. so thats sorted.. Tyres now on order, may be delivered next week. Waiting for TPMS to arrive before I get them mounted.Victor Meldrew wrote:Not sure yet. Shocks have still to arrive and Camskill still to get back to me on the Tyres. So apart from that it's ready.
