British Sprint Championship - Kames this weekend

Post by kevham » Thu Jul 29, 2010 7:33 pm

Hi all,
Jamie McDonald and I will be battling for Class A8 honours at Kames this weekend. Also entered are the usual TVR competition, a Mazda RX-7 and a 2-11 (Saturday only).
As well as the usual Scottish Sprint and Lowland Speed championships, it's a double header round of the British Sprint Championship so there will be some big fancy motors there going unfeasibly quickly as well as some smaller fancy motors going nearly as quickly.
So, if you happen to be in the area come in and say hello. Jamie and I will be in the top paddock near the cafe.
No doubt either Jamie or myself will give an update on results (depending on who gets the better of who!)
Cheers,

Kev

If I'm feeling very pleased, I might give nearly live updates via my fancy new iphone

Chances are I'll be slower than Kev, so not so keen to give updates

Did you sort your funny noises Kev?

Balls, quite a lot on this weekend - would like to pop along and at least have a quick watch... May see you at some stage - I'll probably be in gimp wear unless it's pouring. Although if it's pouring, I'll be less likely to be there

Mike, unfortunately I'm not going to make it for Fintray, but I think Kev was planning on .

Are you thinking of entering the 2-11? I reckon that's the tool to win class A8, and challenge Graeme Bremner's existing class records for a good chance at the overall Sprint Championship 8)

Thanks for the kind words Dom, and hope to see Shug (although the thought of you in Gimp Gear just made me feel a bit ill  )

Jamie, hills really aren't my thing. I only do Fintray because it's my local, couple of hundred yards from the house, event and club. Need to learn to drive the car so out for just a bit of fun :thumbsup

Mike,
I'll be at Fintray for the first time. I did Alford for the first time a couple of weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Got second in class to Martin Smith's VX turbo.

Jamie - noise aint fixed but it's not getting any worse.

The 2-11 is definitely the car for Class A8 dominance but I don't reckon you could win the whole championship now due to the revised scoring system. Graeme's records are breakable but not shatterable (unlike in some other classes  )

Quick update from day 1.

Ian Duncan - Mazda RX-7 - 95.89sec
Kev Hamilton - Vauxhall VX220 - 96.21sec
Alistair Matheson - TVR Groffith 500 - 97.37sec
Jamie McDonald - Lotus Elise - 99.41sec
Duncan McAdam - Lotus 2-11 - 99.51sec

Jamie and I both set personal bests - I took over 1 sec off my previous best and the track was cold and damp so I was well chuffed. :D

Just a wee bit annoyed not to get the class win - especially since the 2-11 was not being driven near its potential !

Sunday was not so good (for me at least). I only managed third in class with a disappointing 88.6 sec (anti-clockwise). The class win went to the RX-7 again with 86.15sec. I never really got into the swing of it - I couldn't remember my gears and I don't have the lines sorted for the anti-clockwise direction yet. An opportunity missed.

Jamie managed to get very close to me with 88.87 secs which was a couple of tenths improvement on his previous personal best.
