Spanish F1 (qualifying spoiler)

Post by robin » Sat May 12, 2012 6:58 pm

This should make for some entertaining moves in the first 10 laps ...

I really feel for Lewis on this one - it should be his race as he's driven the pants off the car and he had a bit of breathing space over those behind - it's not like he's been blessed with good fortune so far this season!

At least he wasn't DQ'd all together!

Cheers,
Robin

Just logged on to vent anger...

What a f**king farce!

No justification for that penalty at all, he pumped the entire grid by a long way, 2 kilos of fuel doesn't result in the 6 tenth gap he had to Maldonado (wtf was he doing there anyway?).

Loss of fastest lap or 5 place penalty, ok rules are rules but demoted to back of grid? Utter, utter joke. Just beggars belief. The racing has been fantastic this season but the corrupt madness that still percolates through the FIA will see fans leaving in their millions.

To further add to the farce, several cars didn't bother their arse setting a time in Q3 yet retained their top ten positions. Only a deliberate underfueling should have warranted such a penalty. Hamilton could have started 10th, what possible rationale would there be to under fuel the car knowing full well they have to get back to the pits with 1 litre of fuel left and would have been found out no matter what.

Another spectacular cock up by McLaren. They seem to be very good at shooting themselves in the foot these days especially on Lewis side of the garage. That said the rules are quite clear about returning to the pits for a fuel sample, not Lewis's fault but thems the breaks. I have always thought that anybody that runs out of fuel and can't make it back tot he pits at the end of the race should be penalised as well but that clearly isn't the case.

I remember the guys on the Moto GP coverage saying the head of the Ducati team used to loose his mind if the bike returned to the pit with anything more than an egg cup full of fuel.
Seems an awful lot to be taking for sampling - or does it go into Bernies car after the show?

Away from the utter shambles, interesting again that Alonso has outqualified Massa by 14 places.

Personally I think that despite being well passed his sell by date Massa did well to get within 1.6 seconds of his team mates laptime on a sub 90 second lap
Sir Jackie Stewart was tipping Paul Di Resta for the number 2 seat at Ferrari.

Keep your eye on the back of the grid - should be an exciting start - what's the betting the HRTs and Marussias or whatever are passed by first corner :-)

Wow, talk about a bitter sweet day for Williams, hopefully all those involved are ok.

How much does an extra litre of fuel weigh?

If they cut it that fine then they deserve a penalty, though not that severe. Their driver qualifies in first place by 0.5 secs and they manage to send him to the back of the grid.

How many fcuk ups is that now, never mind today when he ran over a wheel on the way out?

Given the pace in the race I'm not sure Lewis would have finished that many places further up the field had he started on pole anyway. The field is really close and it was good to see Lotus up there again. Really pleased for Williams - pity that Senna was KO'd by Schumacher. Alonso continues to impress too.

Cheers,
Robin
