Re: Unlapping
I can't see the point in it - he gets back past and as soon as he does has blue flags waved at him again - 4 of those and it's a drive through.

Eyes up and to the right before his answer to Jensen, and then lied in his answer to Niki on the podium .......what more can you say, he was not on the track when he passed, therefor he should not have placed his car where he did....end of.

Re: Unlapping
This isn't the button incident - its a lapped Hamilton getting involved.
To be fair if I was running the team I'd expect Hamilton to run "interference" if it could help the team.

Re: Unlapping
Of course he's going to overtake. It's possible that in doing so he could go from no points to 1 point. It didn't pan out that way, but in the end that could have been the crucial overtake that got that one point ... championships are won and lost on points ... the only stupid person is the one complaining that he was overtaken.

Nothing to complain about - he was passed by a car that was faster at the time.

Re: Unlapping
Unlapping is allowed, not giving way for a faster car when lapped is not.
Vettel knows the rules, it was unprofessional of him not to give the place back when he realised what happened. He went completely off the track, which is the same as cutting a chicane and taking an advantage, drivers do not need the pits to tell them that they have to give it back.
I appreciate that he was racing which is what we want to see, and will take every opportunity to pass, but as above it was an illegal move even though he thought he had done it for the right reasons, and dropped him from what would have been third to fifth.

Re: Unlapping
Remember when tracks were tracks?
Too many of them now are set up so that you can drive into the next County without a penalty. Nobody wants to go back to the old death traps, but if they want to keep the cars on the track, put obstacles there that stop them going off. Gravel traps seems to be the obvious answer instead of green bowling rings, a little off and they will get back on but lose the advantage, too much and they will dig in.
But then again, what do I know.

Re: Unlapping
Did Vettel just expect Hmailton in a quicker car to sit there and follow him?
He got by and didn't risk him slightly....where's the issue.
If he'd somehow fluked a result, he'd be getting praised.
He's not there to make up the numbers

Hamilton was never going to threaten Vettel's position in the race, but could have potentially fought for a point or two. Vettel was just being stroppy as he still did not win a German GP in my opinion.
WRT Vettel's pass on Button, on the way into the hairpin Vettel locked up a bit, and ran very wide, at that point the overtake had failed, but he still, with optimism came back, using the run off area to make a pass. It was right that he should be penalized, although I think perhaps a reversal of positions would have been a more appropriate penalty.
