Rest and Be Thankful Hillclimb?

Post by campbell » Sat Oct 26, 2013 11:09 am

Anyone know anything of the revival of this historic event?

Currently standing in the upper car park watching some very classic hardware - and drivers! - being put through their paces on what might now be called the A83 bypass!!

Only on today it seems.

Range of classics from open wheel Bentley to Austin Maxi ;-)

Would be great for an SE Invitational hillclimb!

I had heard people were looking into getting a proper event permit for this but the costs to put in the required safety measures are seen as prohibitive to get fast cars running on it, so it'll be a classic amble . . . shame as we need some more venues in Scotland.

It's not run as a competitive event, per se. But yes I think it's accessible to mere mortals, which is the next best thing I guess.

Remember it very well as we drove up it with the CCC in April, the same day that I had a little conversation with the Patrol Car officers.

One of the RL team was up there while the testing of a new Skoda Fabia S2000 was going on for the Mull Rally 2014. Link to the video below.

Gents

The historic R&BT is private and owned by the land owner and Forestry Commission.
Classic Car Tours (CCT) are allowed access 2 to 3 times a year where we run non competition events on the old hill climb course, which has now been fully resurfaced.

There are no plans to reintroduce an "official" timed event as the MSA will not issue circuit insurance as the cost of installing all the required safety barriers etc would be prohibitive.

We are next at "The Rest" on Sunday 24th April for our Drive It Day event.
If you are not already entered, it is always good to spectate in the top car park and watch the cars coming up.

Regards

Bill
