NEW Autosolo series, starting Knockhill 20/3/16

Post by Dominic » Thu Mar 03, 2016 12:20 pm

Hi SE peeps. Please see below details of a new series of events that we are running. These will be ideal for lotuses and should be a lot of fun. There will be a team competition too, so maybe a wee SE team?

Bringing you a great opportunity to have some competitive fun in your car,The Scottish Association of Car Clubs is delighted to announce the 2016 Autosolo Series supported by Craig Moncrieff Cars and in conjunction with Mission Motorsport. There will be three events taking place, the first of which is at Knockhill Race Track in Fife on the 20th March. A further two events will take place on the 5th June at Kames, and the 21st August at Ardeer.

The events are open to all road legal cars, with classes based on engine size and a separate class for sports cars. The events will consist of a number of all-forwards courses which will be attempted one at a time against the clock. The courses are more open than an autotest, but not quite a fast as a sprint and are ideal for newcomers as well as more experienced competitors. The routes are user friendly and easy to follow and are not too tough on the cars. This is a great opportunity to try some competitive motor sport and is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

There is a limit to the number of places available for competitors so don't delay in registering your entry for the event. Entry fees cost £20 which represents great value for money. Entries can be made by contacting Glenrothes Car Club; bill.creevy@btinternet.com / 07740 374458.

If I still had an Elise, I'd enter this in a shot. By far some of the best fun I had with my car was on autosolos - if you're considering doing something a bit competitive, but don't want to mod the car to go racing or sprinting, this is about as ideal a toe in the water as you'll find. Great bunch of folk too.

I'm sure for the right price, even the marshals would look away

You in then?

Sadly, just checked the diary and I'm not free.

As Shuggles says, sounds like the perfect toe in the water to me! Cheap fun, plenty blethering time, and no real risk of expensive mistakes.

Next time for sure!

I'll have the Caterham at home the weekend of the first event, so very tempted to enter. A team entry sounds like a good idea.

No helmet required, and a completely standard road car is the target market. In fact one of the conditions is that the car should be driven (or able to be) to the event.

Reminds me of the similar autotesting events we did a few years ago in Hamilton and Johnstone that certainly you, Shug, Andy G and I were at for starters that were a lot of fun with a real mix and match of different vehicles including some specials I'm sure.

From my own perspective it would be good to have a separate class at your events for cars which are not fully road legal as I would really like to come along in my S1 Elise which could be MOT'd but is currently SORN'd and as I already have 6 vehicles to MOT a year that's enough for me! As I understand the Autosolo rules just now then all cars must have a current MOT certificate to take part which would unfortunately rule me out........
Hi Ron,

Thanks for your feedback. You are quite right that the rules and spirit of autosolos is that they are for road legal cars. This does mean that quite a few people are being rules out. I am not the rule maker, and I too would be keen to see a separate class for motor sport/track cars and it's something I am pushing for. However for the time being - road legal cars only I am afraid.

For some reason the Elise feels much more chuckable than the Exige. I've always wanted to do something like this so going to give it a try for sure!
