Buying parts from Pistonheads User

Post by SteveBanks » Wed Oct 03, 2007 1:43 pm

I'm wanting to buy an ECU from someone advertising on Pistonheads, problem is that we're talking about £600 and I don't want ripped off.

The guy's name is William Cruickshank (Evo_Ufo) on Seloc and he's based in Ipswich - just on the off chance someone knows of him/has dealt with him.

What's the best way to proceed payment/delivery-wise for piece of mind?

I've bought stuff from Seloc in the past, including a gearbox though £150 isn't the same as £600. I'd ask for his contact details to send a cheque, then you can do a 192 search to see if he's registered there. if he is, and he tries to rip you off, you know where to send the coppers :)

Only know of him through his posts on exiges.com, but he has been on there a while so not a noob scammer.

I sent £900 to a guy on SELOC and read through his old posts to check out who knew him etc for peace of mind.

I have a works number, home number and mobile from him. He's based in Ipswich (matches the number) and sounds genuine. I'm just going to phone him tonight and get him to send it and transfer the money...fingers crossed!

The guys name is Will Cruickshanks, he's originally from Scotland and rattled off a few SE'rs that he knows (Jamie is the only one I remember) and said they would vouch for him so that's good enough for me.

Lotus Motorsport ECU on its way :D
