The police were informed and then later all the good neds friends got together and tracked down the miscreants names and photos. Their details were passed to the boys in blue, together with their photographs (think 80s blond highlights) and registration numbers.

I don't know who Bebo is in the story, he may be some sort of superhero who finds folk on the net, I'm not sure.
I read between the lines. good ned thought he would feck off bad ned and not let him passed. Why would you even want to be on the same road as the bad ned never mind hold them up? bad ned gets really fecked off. the seat thing is just made up?

I could be wrong?
Me too... There's a bit where good ned says something along the lines of "bad ned was driving wildly trying to overtake on blind corners and stuff so I tried to block him by driving in the middle of the road at points where I thought it was inappropriate to pass."

If you just think that one through for a moment it's nonsense. Should be more like "I tried to stop him from overtaking for reasons that are unclear even in my own head". But I wasn't there so who knows? Maybe he is right.

Why would anyone want a heedbanger/bad ned behind them? better to let them pass less chance of them driving into you.

and do you get such a thing as a "good ned" ?

whether it's nonsense between neds or not I doubt they'll discriminate if your driving a Loti or not.. I've seen some nonsense and there have been many crashes to and from Crail etc because some chaps don't know when to race and when to drive with due care.. usually they can't drive on track for toffee neither..

I agree I'd let them past and get as far away as poss.. but it does sound like the other driver was intimidating.. and some overtakes put both cars in danger.. bad reaction to a bad situation.

I used to carry a 6C cell maglight in the Audi.... after reading a book called SAS driving survival tips.. its a torch but it works well as a thing to bash the sh*t out of anyone who comes too close or starts on you...

Self defence in Scotland... outside of the big city's, very worrying.
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

Know some security bods who swear by those you can have a legit reason for having one so it's not an offensive weapon. and if you just happen to use it to bludgeon someone with that's ok, as long as you stop when you have overpowered them. not a good idea to jump on their head kick them when they are down, stab/shoot etc. (i'm from Killie scotlands murder capital) I used to have a 1m length of 3/4 threaded bar in the car. my excuse I am an engineer I was taking it home to make bit's for the shed ;)

Got to be surely. Just imagine the plan...

"Right M Blur, earlier today I saw a lovely Ford Focus with an extrememly rare set of seats."

"Seats you say Pete? Well let us steal them!"

"Splendid idea M Blur, and I have a cunning plan, based on the moving picture "Fast and the Furious" we shall use our lightly modified motor cars to hunt them down and chase them until they stop."

"Sounds good so far Pete, and they are certain to stop if we drive after them quickly and threateningly."

"Indeed M and then we shall simply remove the seats, shouldn't take more than an hour or two as we remembered to bring all our tools with us, including the flexible head socket wotnot to get to that difficult to reach bolt. Also as we will be in the centre of St Andrews passers-by may offer to help!"

"Splendid idea Pete, and whilst you and whatever passerbys have stopped to help are removing the seats I shall control the current owners of the seats by speaking to them calmly and explaining our plan."

"Then it is oly a simple case of swapping the new seats for our existing chairs as there isn't room in the boot of the Saxo for 2 Focus seats, having first fabricated a replacement subframe as the seats are from a different car, and then we are away!! What can possibly go wrong???"

Got to admit I completley agree.

I have been to a Crail Thrash in the Elise and was the first time I met Stu (a hot hatch driver as well). The vast majority fo the folk there are just people who like cars and talking pish about there cars to other like minded people (bit like Elise Owners then). I had one go at the quarter mile but prefer twisties to a boring bit of straight road so not my cup of tea.

I was also a regular visitor to the Strathycruise which is only minutes from my house. Made a lot of good friends there and they were all very welcoming and complementary of Elises. Like most places you did get a small minority that caused trouble which reflected on the rest of the people that went to the Cruises. Strathcruise also organised Knockhill track days in which there was a wide range of performance cars and the track etiquette was easily as good as any SIDC I have attended.

Nobody here knows the true story of the folk getting chased but even if it was half true it would be scary stuff. Trying to block someone passing does seem like asking for trouble but then brandishing a heavy torch at somebody could also be seen as asking for trouble. I am sure my SAS Survival book says the first steps in Survival are bloody great ones in the opposite direction

In early years education and childcare one of the things we are always teaching children is respect for others and not to judge or stereoptype folk. From my expereinces folk do not make loads of judgements about Elise drivers on other car forums, indeed many admire the Elise so why do so many Elise folk seem to slag off young drivers, many of whom may well be, or at least like to be, Elise drivers when they can afford one. Some of the comments in the slagging off threads sound like the stuff out of the "Grumpy" programmes on tv.

Take some chill pills folks

This is the internet! 93% of the forums are made up of people gossiping about thing they know nothing about (have you seen Selock?) :D :D :D

Errrm didn't mean to upset anyone, (as it was me who called them neds).

Shoomer asked for a precis of the very loong thread and I thought it would funnier if I used a similar word to describe all the protagonists. I chose ned because I couldn't think of anything else.

Are you a ned if you go to Crail, no. You are a ned if you are a ned.
Are you a ned if you drive a modded hatchback, well of course not, but you have to accept the slightly dodgy image so you can expect to be thoguht of as one. My boss drives a Orange Focus ST (very slowly). He is in his fifties but he still looks like a ned :P

Personally I have always thought image is quite important so have been careful when choosing my cars to make sure they reflect my Guardian reading, Green voting (well once), wholier than thou, left wing soul. Perhaps if one is concerned about how others see one then one should be careful about selecting a car which reflects the image one would like to protray, like I have done in the past.

Previous cars:
Vauxhall Chevette. BRG Green. Small oil leak (think Alaska). More tinker spec than ned to be honest.
Opel Ascona 2.0 SR. Lowered, K&N. Quite loud. Used to take it XR3i bating.
Honda CBR600F. Bright yellow, with rider in blue race leathers with Alpinestars written across my back in fetching silver.
Opel Manta GTE (white). Move on. Nothing to see here.
Subaru Impreza WRX PPP. Quite loud.
Sample quote - Wife "No you can't buy it. I'll look like a ned. Bugger me it's quick, you take the Elise today I'm taking that Scooby again."
