Another MP3 Question

The Elise has an ipod connector, however, Shug doesnt rate them... and I prefer a flash memory player too due to the same reasons.

However, can the connector be converted to take any other types of mp3 players?

Is it specifically an iPod connector (USB), or is it just a 3.5mm jack socket which some manufacturers call "iPod connectors"?

Think this Elise (07 model) has an Alpine head unit.
Still to read manual... which is on a CD.

not aware of that specific unit but most of Apline's models have this so that you can control the functionality of the ipod from the headunit, display text etc. What i would have thought you could do though would be to get hold of a spare aux input cable (try Ray Smith) or similar, which will allow you to connect a normal mp3 players through a 3.5mm jack.

The instruction manual should have a list of the available ports at the back of the unit, and wiring it in is a doddle as long as you like lying upside down in the pax seat for 15 mins

Manual states:

You can input the audio of a connected exteranl device, (such as a portable player) to the iPod Dircet connector of this unit, using an iPod Direct/ RCA Interface cable.
An external device and an iPod cannot be connected at the same time.

What is this cable and what can I attach with it?

This is the existing cable

to plug an RCA cable in then it would have to use the subwoofer socket as there are no other compatible connections.???
