Rome Hotels

Looking at getting a few days in Rome for the inlaws Xmas. I've never been before and need some recommendations for locations/hotels.
Best places to be in/best places to avoid. Nothing too expensive, probably 3 star but well located.

Neil I can recommend the Hotel De Petris 3 star clean very reasonably priced and five minutes walk from Trevi Fountain perfect if you want to see the sights.
