Worrying news

Post by BiggestNizzy » Sat Dec 01, 2007 12:31 am

The Uk is being let down somewhere, I don't think it is the members of SE as having met some of you, you all seem to be doing your bit to rectify the situation. But I feel it's time we doubled our efforts to bring these average values up and gain our propper place at the top of the table we Scot's are well known for our love of it and and I feel we may be getting dragged down by the rest of the UK as unfortunatly we are being lumped in with them. as after all if you listen to the scottish executive we do it all to much and it must stop.

It is indeed a sad day 12th is unacceptable we are not even in the top 10

clicky--> disapointing <--clicky for noops

Oh that's so good to hear, make me so proud to be Scottish :oops:

Had to do a report on Health in Scotland and here is the paragraph on drinking and young people. Don't get me wrong I have a drink every now and again but in complete moderation. My Dad was an alcholic and when we actually did see him he was quite violent. Probably why I never shed a tear when he was killed in a road accident when I was 10. (he was probably partly drunk anyway)

"Scotland’s binge drinking culture has not only lead to an increase in liver disease but also to a rise in the consumption of alcohol by young people. It is estimated that a quarter of 13 years olds, rising to half of 15 year olds drink alcohol regularly. Over 1000 under 18 year olds are admitted to hospital each year due to drink. A third of all calls to Childline Scotland were from children concerned about their parents drinking. Up to 100,000 children live in households where one or more parents has an alcohol problem. Alcohol is identified as a main contributor to the rising trend of violent behaviour by young people of both sexes. Almost one in three girls aged between 11-15 was involved in at least one physical fight in the last year which has been attributed to a rise in alcohol consumption. The Scottish Government has a major challenge to tackle this cultural problem. The 2005 Licensing Act puts health at the heart of the licensing regime and will tackle under-age drinking, binge drinking, irresponsible promotions and over provision of licensed premises. The recently updated Plan for Action on Alcohol aims to create a culture where safe and sensible consumption of alcohol is seen as compatible with a healthy lifestyle."

Isn't binge drinking having 4 pints in a row or something similar, I am by no means a "drinker" I will have a glass of wine with my dinner (if i'm cooking for a young lady I wish to impress ;) ) I go on the odd night out and "binge" I was brought up in an enviroment where alcohol was present but never drunk excessivly when I was 19-22 I drunk 6 nights a week (tuesday was detox night) but in all that time I only got into 1 fight, I didn't start or finish it I just kinda fell over, but a sympathetic young lady helped me out so it wasn't that bad ;) ;)

the problem is people there are people in this world who do drink and fight and cause problems and pubs are not the problem it's 22p asda smartprice lager and those offlicences who sell to underage kids we all know places that do it, but nothing is done about it
