One unit is half a pint of average beer, one (small glass of wine), one measure of spirit etc.

Another agree-er of Greg's post, without sounding like a smug tw@t, it's just not worth it.

Life-changing scenario, losing your licence (jobs, marriages, etc have been lost due to this), and that doesn't even scratch the surface compared with injuring an innocent party or worse :(
