SPEEDBUMPS

Post by cloggie » Sun Dec 09, 2007 6:14 pm

Just wondering if there is any way i can claim the council for a new clam as it was one of their man made mountains that it hit ! not only that its a totally pointless one as it is in a cul-de-sac and the chances of speeding on that road are ziltch as its only f*cking 200 yds long !!!!!

there are laws governing speed bumps
http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/roads/tpm/tal ... andeng4117
I imagine it's probably one of those annoying things where you have to go to the expence of taking it to court and proving that it is to high/you where driving slow etc etc. It's like the holes in the road thing the council are liable but only if they know they just say "we didn't know" and they get away scott free

A fault in the road isn't the same as making a speed bump bigger than they're allowed to so it's probably worth a shot trying to claim off them. Measure the bump first though.

If you hit one with standard ride height it's too high and you have a case...

Pothole ate my elise last year......long story!....£2100!
Council rejected my claim, saying something like-
"roads?.....nah we're not responsible for them!"
martha-fockers!

Where is it? I hate the ones at roadends, makes pulling out into the main road a nightmare.

Not defending it, but it might have been the right size, and you hit it because you were braking for the junction, so the nose was down??

Like i say, not defending it, just make sure your definitely right before you pursue it

The link to the other thread above is about me hitting an unmarked speedbump in my old Elise. Was definitely taking it all the way with the council as it was completely unmarked and definitely over 100mm tall. However, then had unfortunate write-off accident in Elise and so never completed the claim.

Funny thing is, the council have never returned my calls, so it goes to show that the only reason they'll look into it is if you pester them. Call them every single day until they finally get their finger out and look into it!
