It's SNOW good

Post by james » Sun Dec 09, 2007 7:48 pm

Went to head home last night from Edinburgh down the A702. Bypass was getting tricky, really slushy and it was already dark.

Once past Hillend things changed dramatically  It was snowing quite hard - too hard to have full beam on :o I checked the level of grip on a straight bit of the road and with hardly any throttle the rears just lit up and I wagged the back end more than I would have liked.

The front end started getting rather light and so with my 18month old daughter in the car and me remembering all those stories of unlucky Elise owners heading into the nearest ditch I gently managed to stop in a bus stop and headed back into Edinburgh to wait for things to calm down.

Definately the right thing to do as 3 hours later things were much better. Headed home with the wife and collected the car today so I was lucky.

Be careful out there, we still have a lot of winter to go

You should have tried Soutra (A69) around 5:30 last night

Someone way ahead of us decided it would be a good idea to put their hazards on and crawl up the hill at 5 tuts. Which caused a long tailback, and stop/start traffic on the hill. Not funny at all. Would have been fine if I could have just kept going in 3rd/2nd. But trying a hill start in 1st had the backend wagging like a excited spaniel pup, and a frontend that had no interest in pointing anywhere. I Had left loads of room from the car infront, and the BMW behind me soon back off my ass after that. fcuk.
No, No! not Bloke. It's pronounced Black, as in Plaque

I had fun on the bypass last night too, decided to keep going just for the conditions to get even worse on the west. Its amazing how little grip there is when there's only an inch of slush on the road. Also amazing the number of people who clearly took an invincibility pill before leaving-I don't mind them trying to kill themselves on the road by driving like eejits but I'd really rather they didn't do it anywhere me or my little plastic car!

I remember some tosser in a 4x4 of all things, doing that a couple of years ago on the Eaglesham moors in thick snow. I was in the S2000 at the time and knew fine well I would roll back down it if I joined the queue, so hammered past them at about 40 to make sure I got up it. :D

As I passed I saw some poor sod in a BMW 3-series stationary with the tail wagging waiting on this bawbag in the Merc ML getting up the hill. I din't envy him in the slightest.
