Lewis Hamilton, on basis he's the only one I've heard talk this year so the only personality I can assess!

But if you saw him on Top Gear this week you may also accept he has the humility and humour to see things through.

For an island nation of ~60m people, we deserve to identify those who make the strongest mark on the global sporting scene, IMHO. Again I think Lewis did that this year. Haven't heard of half the rest of them.

It shouldn't be called sports 'personality'
It's just an award for who was most successful or achieved the most during the year.

I still think it should be Paula has she has been amazing over the years and to win the NYC Marathon the way she did was  And that's what, 10 months after having a kid. It's not just having the kid but juggling being a Mum and training to be one of the finest long distant runners in the world.

If Hatton can pull off the win tonight then I think that would be 'one' of the greatest results in British boxing....

As much as I'm not a fan of Hamilton I can see why he might be considered. He's done wonders for F1 this year but I think the Sports Personality Award should be awarded to a individual such as Paula or Hatton. With Hamilton there was too many other factors involved such as faster car, better team etc

Great to see Calzaghe get it, as I thought Hamilton was a cert.

Absolutely the correct result. How ironic - Hamilton takes 2nd when it looked like certain victory.

Not the only one mate. My wife has had the hots for him since the early days of his racing career when he was in GSE racing.

Such a nice guy, we were at Monza for the World Superbike race and my wife asked him to autograph her knee sliders. He then said why don't you come back after the superpole and you can have my own knee sliders (which he autographed). Made my wife's holiday (made sure I accompanied her in case he made a move  )

Here is a picture of him with my wife at World Ducati Week (with him on my motorbike):

Not sure what Ron Dennis was on about in the Hamilton montage - China was Hamilton's fault? Que? Keeping him out on canvas was a good team decicion was it?

I thought Calzaghe and Hatton were a great laugh last night too :thumbsup to Joe :)

There was an interesting interview at the start of the Chinese GP when one of the F1 old hands was asked "Who makes the call when to come of the inters?" the driver responded "always the driver, always. He's the one that knows the grip levels"
