TomTom 910

Post by tut » Mon Dec 10, 2007 4:32 pm

Not impressed after buying their top of the range product recently, to find that their update and support is crap.

Surely it should be possible to update your maps, at least in the first year, with a free download. I knew that Speed Cameras, Traffic reports etc all had to be subscribed to, but not that I would not be able to update it when a new road was built. Classic example is the recent Old Meldrum bypass which TomTom recognises as a big field.

The 920 that has just come out has Mapshare installed, but this is unavailable on the 910 without buying a complete set of version 6.75 maps as opposed to the 6.60 that I have.

I realise that the world does not stand still, but after three months of ownership that is pretty pathetic.

Anybody know if I can install the maps from a later DVD for the 720 or 920, or is it tied in to a code on the unit itself? There are items on eBay, but as most of these are more than the upgrade from TomTom themselves, it lives upto its name as PrickBay.

I do buy software as long as it is not from M/S, and I have recently sent donations to three non profit Forums that I use for useful information to keep them going, but I do not like like having the piss taken.

IIRC the map format is common and the 6.75 maps will work fine....
