nlc Need a brickie.

Post by pete » Wed Dec 19, 2007 9:24 am

Does anyone know a brickie they can recommend in the Glasgow/Ayrshire area?

It's to take out a supporting wall so I'd rather someoen who others had used and spoke highly of rather than take a chance with the unknown.

If it's just to remove a wall rather than facing work (ie exposed brick finish) then you're unlikely to need a brickie- couple of decent labourers should do the trick, as long as the've done it before.

(Good brickies are like gold dust, but usually more expensive & harder to get hold of...and, sorry, the only one I'd have recommended personally fell off a scaffold recently  )

I'd need a little more info on what you're doing exactly, but generally it's not rocket science- as long as it's needled/propped adequately, any padstones/ steelwork are decently bedded and shimmed, there's not much to it apart from donkey-work.

PM if you want any advice.

Thanks folks. We are about to do some work on the house and our joiner, who has done loads for us over the years and who we trust etc has decided, selfishly, to emigrate.
No having seen the lousy work friends have had done using tradesmen they didn't know we are terrified of doing this work without him so we are trying to convince him to do it before he goes, but his brickie is busy... (We've also used him before).

He's going to chase his brickie again - if he is unsuccessful I'll convince him to use someone else and I'll be in touch.

Thanks again for the very quick replies...
