Frozen locks
Frozen locks
Anyone got ant idea how to unfreeze my locks ? I stupidly left the car on the street last night and now i cant get in !!!! Help
That was what I used to do. Always remember to dry the key before putting it in the lock; no point in introducing more moisturemainsy wrote:i had the same problem 2day. only thing that worked for me was a mug of boiling water and i kept dipping the key in then trying it in the lock. repeat 40 times and bingo
Best prevention; leave it unlocked
I've had that a few times, so bought one of those hot key de-icer things off ebay. Had to use it for the first time this morning, couldn't get the key in, so 15-20 secs with the hot key = BINGO, only trouble after that was the barrel wouldn't turn
, first time I've ever had that.

I am also having the same problem most mornings. I can get my key to go in but it wont turn. I have tried loads of WD40. If anyone has found a solution feel free to share.
PS And no I dont have a garage before anyone suggests that.

...But I did get caught out with the old S2 (no central locking) a few times. I found holding a hot water bottle over the lock for a few minutes usually worked - it seemd to defrost the whole lock, not just the keyhole.
Good luck next time!

That's an amazing idea! I'll have to look out the hot water bottle.duggiesmith wrote:I found holding a hot water bottle over the lock for a few minutes usually worked - it seemd to defrost the whole lock, not just the keyhole.

I have two pretty good solutions.
To defrost when frozen i get out the extension and use the wife's hair dryer that way you are not introducing any moisture and it defrosts the locks in jig time.
To prevent the locks freezing in the first place, on a warm day scoosh lots of white grease into them. it's essentially parafin wax so it's more solid than wd 40 and fills up all the gaps so does not allow any moisture to get into the lock.
Hope this wors for you guys
