DB9
I'm sure I will be in the minority here but I think the whole Aston range is pretty boring. Every model they make seems to be a styling clone of the one they made before.
OK they don't look ugly in any way but there is very little to distinguish between each model. A bit of individuality wouldn't go amiss.
I would much rather buy a XK8 and a M5 with the change.

My boss has not long sold his (just got his new 911Turbo). He lent it to me for a weekend and whilst it was fun it wasn't everything I had wanted it to be. After the Elise it is way to civilised and began to feel a bit dull. At the end of the weekend I wasn't bothered at having to give it back
Unless you're lucky enough to not give a second thought to the depreciation, I think I would start to resent the car.

Good friend with nice car history (cerbra, boxster s, 911c4s, 911t, 355b, 911t tweaked) got a 9 then chopped it in for a 9 volante. Loves it but has had problems and it is his second car. Far from his fastest which he claims is still the TVR.
I am loving the fact that Dave Richards was promising limited run specials a la Lotus as tbh I thought the range was lacking somewhat and I could not tell the difference between the vanq, 8, AMV and DBS.
How much was the final vanq going out for ?

Reliability seems to be a recurring issue, keep the Porker!
It's rare enough and must be a better drivers car aswell, depreciation is pretty good with even Mark 1's still high 30 low 40's.
Are you thinking new, second hand or contract leasing? All ways lead to huge costs but if it keeps it from the taxman, blow it.

if evolution don't take care of it, redesign it
I'd take a Vanquish... or a DB9... or a Vantage... thanks very much.
60-70K seems to be starting price for any of the above. But, if it was my own money.. I think I'd have to take a 360 before any of the above. The wife would fall out with me about it though as she would want an Aston.

Women do seem to love the Aston.... perhaps not such a bad idea thengorrie wrote:I'd take a Vanquish... or a DB9... or a Vantage... thanks very much.

Shame about the gearbox though.
ETA: and maybe the depreciation.

Its difficult to pin point a car as there are many criteria such as the price, depreciation, new /second hand, reliability, build quality and personal preference.
Assuming its going to be your secondary car and you want something sporty, I would go for a newer Ferrari. I may be bias but the 360 is a really nice car to drive slow, fast, in or out of towns. As you won't be tracking the car, it should not cost too much to maintain or need any modifications. Nice ones are getting very cheap so you don't have to worry too much about the depreciation too (relatively speaking). The only down side is you get too much attention. If you don't mind, I'd consider it. I prefer the stick but paddle box is much improved upon the 355's (drive by wire).

I think the DB9 is absolutely drop dead gorgeous
I guess it does have a bit of an old man image, but then so does the 911 (GT3 and RS excluded of course). I read somewhere that the average 911 buyer in the UK is over 50, and you just have to look at how many are ordered with an automatic box (over 50% IIRC) to realise many are bought for all the wrong reasons. I guess there aren't too many sub 40 year olds around who can afford new Astons or Porsches.

Did someone say 575? The car looked good in 1996...
I've heard that the 360 is a very twitchy little b'hatch to drive. Its also been eclipsed by the 430, so you're always driving 'behind' the times if you like. If I'm honest, I think its one of the ugliest fezzas out there and I'd probably prefer a 355
if I couldn't stretch to a 430 (with ceramic stoppers, natch)
I love the DB9, it just looks so special and there aren't many of them about (as opposed to the V8 Vantage) You culd always buy a vanquish for comparably little money to make sure someone else has taken the depreciation hit for you (that's make a change for you paul!

If I were you, It'd be an R8 please. Black, carbon sideblades. Just wait a wee while 'till the R10 is out

before the pedants get me, I know it was a 550 back then...
I've also heard that the 360 F1 switchgear is the easiest way in the world to have people point and laugh at you in a queue of traffic... revs, ker-clunk, stall
Thinking about it, buy a 993 Gt2 and be done with it! If you can't find a RHD one, what about a 993 Turbo?
Old. Skool.
