Nope,

But I did sell cigarettes to a Sri Lankan woman for a couple of years and she seemed nice.

I was there in the early '70's, on leave from Oman, when it was still known as Ceylon.

Not much use to you though as that was 35 years ago, it was unspoilt then with great food and plenty of lassies.

I believe it is now known as the Paedophile Capital of the World.

ps Gary Glitter is just out of jail, so you will probably bump into him.

Nah, went to Vietnam as well, but that was just looking at getting a job with Air America(CIA)

Good money, but they would have got me killed.

went in november, took a 4day tour then a 5 day beach great holiday people where friendly, some staff seemed to expect tips all the time.
The driving has to be seen to be believed.Lots of locals selling crap at the beach resort but, pretend you dont understand english and they soon leave you alone ( they didnt understand spainish :D )

overall really enjoyed it, but you should really do the tour to see the centre of ceylon and Sigiriya Rock.

I spent a month in Sri Lanka 4 or 5 years ago as part of a year travelling, and it was superb, in fact it was the best place we visited (we spent the other 11 months in Dubai, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Laos, Singapore and Burma)

Spent a day in Columbo about 12 years ago, the city is lovely and there was plenty to see and do. The people were very friendly, however they all appeared to be dope dealers as I was constantly being offerd "hashish" There are some spectacular hindu temples in some wild colours with all the hindu gods carved on the facades which you can visit. The only things of concern back then were the Tamil tigers who were on the rampage and in 5 years on the boats it was the only place I needed to take malayria tablets ( which I always forgot )

We went for 2 weeks the summer before last. Spent a week touring down the west and south coasts (doing a few safaris) and then headed into the centre of the country up in the hills and tea plantations. Second week we spent on the beach which was good and pretty much as described above. Also much devistation from the Tsunami and it is a 3rd World country in places so be prepared - but an amazing place to go none the less.

Amazing country with so many different climates and landscapes to see.

Need to watch the terrorism side of things though (random bombings) and the army have been bombing the Tamil Tigers again at the weekend. You are normally ok if you avoid the North and East of the country.
