Service opens a can of worms...

Post by Ardiem » Thu Jan 31, 2008 2:27 am

Got my car back from Ali (SLS) today after he performed an A service and checked it for MOT readiness. Needless to say, a variety of problems reared their head. The front tyres needed replaced - I knew that because I was understeering everywhere and sliding slowly to a halt at the slightest touch of the brakes.

However the rear toe links needed replaced and the geometry setup again - I reckon that's down to the numerous potholes around Glasgow. But the big expense is the offside rear wheel seems to have a flat spot and £300 for a replacement doesn't fill me with joy.

Can anyone recommend a good (but cheap) place to fix the wheel in Glasgow?

Good of Ali to let me know about this stuff BEFORE taking it for an MOT - I can name a few garages that don't! Thumbs up for Ali for servicing it a decent price.

have a nosey on Seloc and pistonheads - sometimes you get lucky and people may be selling odd wheels. I'd even give ebay a whirl. Just remember to make sure you buy S2 sized ones ;)

Yes, I suppose EBay might do the job - just a bit worried that any wheel I buy turns out to be less round than the wheel i need to replace.

I'll check all thos places, thanks for the suggestions.

Does this look like a good idea? It's the right year and style as well.

Warning....I am uneducated in theses things but I believe they may have different wheel's that look the same on S2's.....ie offset or something.....I needed a new one for my elise last year.....and MMC (GLASGOW) made an ar5e of it!

looks like that one on ebay should be ok though - can't go wrong at that price either!

IIRC, the only 'offset' issue would be between toyota and rover engined cars. Back in the early naughties there weren't any in the range so he should be ok

I just got off the phone to Carrick - they'll sort it on Monday morning for £25. Result!

Not sure, but MMC (GLW) thought they had the correct 111s wheel and didn't.....like I said, I'm no expert

Can't remember the name but there was a place in Airdrie that refurbed my allows including taking out a couple of buckles. Pretty cheap as well. I used it as a last resort as I couldn't find an S1 111s wheel anywhere. I have a feeling that somebody didn't get a good result here but I was happy with it. Try the search function.
