Haven't been able to put it down all week. You can even drive an 'Elise' at eye-watering speeds straight into a brick wall and watch in awe as the car disintegrates in slow motion. If you felt like a masochist that is - smash up the other cars instead..
Anyone got a PS3?

If you do have a PS3/Xbox then, by god, you simply must get Burnout Paradise.

I found it to be quite shonky in a lot of respects - no warping to events = driving pain - slow mo camera (that lasts for 10 seconds) EVERYTIME YOU CRASH = pain - shonky default camera position ensures you crash at every opportunity = pain - reverse cam = pain.....i'm not really a fan
GT5 however - sweet jesus

Problem with GT5 is that it is a bit one-dimensional. Sure the graphics are superb but ultimately it's simply driving round and round the same tracks. You do need to continue to do well, get a licence, get money get more cars etc and as a result it's not so immediately accessible - more a long term love affair.
Burnout on the other hand is a sand box game so you drive wherever you want at whatever speeds and has a variety of challenges on top of the races which holds my interest longer. I do get what you mean about the camera angles and they do cause accidents quite often but then that is sort of the point. It can give you a bit of a fright when you suddenly slam head on with that bus that you couldn't see.
The accident/slomo bits aren't that intrusive and only last about 3 secs. The car destroying itself against whatever immoveable object you've just driven into is far better than GT's 'bounce off without a scratch' approach. The GT developers wanted to use accident damage but the licencing to use the cars forbade them from doing it. The game is worse for it in my opinion.
Having said that I'll be getting GT5 too, but Burnout is a great way to stave off the impatience...

I downloaded the demo of Burnout on the PS store. Not my cuppa tea TBH... drove around a bit got bored. Same thing happened with the demo of NFS ProStreet. The car sounded nice in the demo... I'll give you that.
I like the whole Grand Turismo thing where it takes you a while to get your licenses/money/cars. It has challenges right through the game always striving to get up a level... I'm afraid that kinda thing hooks me.
I know that I could go and fire up GT4 on the old PS2 right now and despite having owned it for years I've still never got passed the 80% complete mark... which means that I still have targets (I think it's all those single make races in the individual countries I need to get finished)
Even things like Toca, with the same career mode does the trick for me.

I'm 95% through the previous Burnout (Revenge) on 360, played about 37 hours...
I'll pick up Paradise when the inevitable price drop happens or when I go to buy a ps3 and it's in a decent bundle.
GT5 will no doubt be awsome and a must own, you guys are all talking about the taster, GT5 Prologue though. I completed the last prologue, it was decent and allowed me to carry licences over to GT4 (allowing me straight into the action).
I have a feeling i'm gonna prefer Forza 2 to GT5, and the tracks in Forza are awful :/
Other than that, Mario Kart Wii is supposedly pencilled in for April

Haven't switched on my PS3 since December...
Whiled away a few hours playing the GT HD demo...Good fun, although understand they halted the GT HD project on the grounds of cost / complexity...
GT5 uses a different graphics engine...But can't wait for the proper launch, and will of course buy Prologue when it comes out in March...The online racing should be cool...
Tried Forza 2 on the 360...Very decent, but don't like the handling of the cars compared to GT HD...In that, you can really feel the effects of understeer / oversteer and hold some decent drifts...
(Of course, the big launch of '08 is in April...GTA on the PS3...

Toca 2 was one of my favourite on-line driving games along with PGR2.
Always liked the early GT games as they were the best at the time, but for console sims my preference is Forza 2.
If you switch off all but the ABS and lower the tyre pressures you can really sense the over/understeer and steer the car on the throttle. The biggest advantage, for me, is the triggers allow you better control than the thumbsticks and leaves a spare thumb for gear shifting.
