Kinda know the limits a little more on the 048s now , but I must have averaged about 40mph on the way home

Thats the thing with the elise, you sometimes feel that you shouldnt possibly be going so slowly, when normal cars are still screaming past. I remember a sudden downpour on the way to the ring. I was aquaplaning at 40mph

Guys, thanks for all the comments. Although it wasn't the worst bash we've seen for SE folk in recent months it hit me pretty hard yesterday.

I'm not running on 48's just the standard AD07's. I was going to ask for thoughts on what happen but Neil, I think you've described exactly the cause. I saw the the water but too late to brake, I held the wheel too tight and the main thing, I lifted off the throttle. I tried to correct but it was obviously too late and Campbells words went through my head...I was a passenger. I just braced myself for impact. Luckily the impact wasn't as bad as it could have been. 3pm in the afternoon and no cars behind me for about half a mile....how lucky was that!

Was I going too fast? Before hand I didn't think so and I wasn't breaking any laws but evidently it was too fast to deal with the unexpected. There's easier and cheaper ways to gain that experience I suppose

The insurance company, Groupama, (via A-Plan) have been real easy to deal with and had no problem with me wanting to take it to Steve Walkers. Should hear soon with their thoughts on the extent of the damage.

I'm keen to make enquiries with the council. Don't expect to get anything out of it for myself but if it gets something done to improve the drainage it would be worthwhile. If anyone can offer any pointers on where to start it would be welcomed.

Once again, thanks for all the comments, SE at it's best.

Really sorry to hear that mate...! Horrible thing.

I couldn't agree more with the points above. Almost lost it myself on Saturday in Edinburgh - pishing down rain and I pulled away from a traffic light to quickly to get out infront as I was pissed at a Mini undertaking me... My fault..

I have to just keep reminding myself that even though its a Lotus, its better slower in one peice than faster in 12.

Chin up :)

Been there... France last year, downpour across the whole country for days, me bound for Chamonix on old R888s!

Stuck to 40mph max, but it was still all over the place. Trucks were passing me rather angrily (as I was ripping past them between downpours). Not fun. Really not fun.

Sorry to hear of another rain victim. :(
