The £20k challenge.......a new car for Uncle Ron
Re: The £20k challenge.......a new car for Uncle Ron
Not strictly true, I've seen a few belters sub 30k recently. backside has fallen out of the market a bit such that I've even seen an e92 on for £48k (2.5k miles only)

968 Club Sport? Assuming you could find a decent one, not many about.
This one: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/422369.htm looks nice, good number plate too (although that might raise the price to 20K
).

Re: The £20k challenge.......a new car for Uncle Ron
Thinking laterally .........If i had £20k i'd buy 2 cars - one shopping trolly and one fun thing.
How often will uncle ron want to have max fun AND need 4 seats in the same journey? Might be totatlly wrong but IMHO the two car approach would suit most people better than the one "compromise" car. This especially works if he good with a spanner.
So now that the practicality is out of the way i'd say;
- Elise
- Caterham
- Cerbie
- Tamora

EDIT : Just reread the post and it's clear i'm an idiot.
I'd still say buy a trevor though. Tamoras are silly silly silly cheap at the moment

Focus ST estate, i3s and more pushbikes than strictly necessary.

Yup - he bought a Scooby for my aunt, so has been there, and despite all the great stuff about the Evo, doesn't fancy one much.
M3 chat continues though...........
Oh, and also, i think the 2 car option is out of the window, as my aunt will go nuts if he gets rid of the corrado and replaces it with 2 cars!

Watching this thread with interest ot see if any decent options come up. I'm currently leaning towards the Masa 3200 GT personally.

I would go for a Masseratti 3200/4200, TVR Cerbera, or Jaguar XKR. I don't know if it is possible to get a Ferrari 456 for the kind of money, possibly high twenties, but worth considering.

I would be concerned about the residuals on a Maser... I have heard it said that the residuals drop when the warrantees run out... due to the car being unrelaible (or at least repution) and expensive to fix?... IMHO
Re: The £20k challenge.......a new car for Uncle Ron
Any maserati at £20k or under is going to have lost most of its money though.Dominic wrote:I would be concerned about the residuals on a Maser... Its where my £ would be going, Grigio with red leather for me!

I have an e46 M3 as my every day car. Its one of the best cars i have ever owned. Its happy enough to cruise along and munch up miles in comfort. Or if your in the mood, you can just take it to the twistys and spank it like the bitch it is! A real car for any occasionI
If he does go for one its probably best to have it checked out by someone who knows BMW's. Or pay the extra and get it from a dealer. M3's can be expensive to fix.
The only downside is the brakes which are not up to any track use or really hard road use. This can be helped with better pads and fluid though.

Tell your Uncle Ron to forget the Lotus Carlton.
My other half had one, great cars and a real event to drive, M3/5s don’t come close in comparison. However parts are a complete nightmare with most parts having to be custom made now, being mechanically talented isn’t much help if you can’t get the parts. That's the only real reason he got rid of the car.
Not that I can complain, he sold it and I got my Exige.
