Power 190+ps @7500rpm Torque 151lb.ft @ 6250rpm The 1.8i performance VHPD engine is now very well known. It is used in both road and race applications in many of today's highly desirable sports cars. Lotus Exige, 340R, Caterham superlight and the Westfield FW400 to name four. A very close relationship was used by Rover in their highly successful MGF cup single make race series. The engine is available as a fully built road or race specification with the options of either a hot test or fully run and rated with performance curve supplied for an additional cost. The 2001 model year VHPD now incorporates the newly developed PTP multi throttle inlet manifold with EFI ECU and unique PTP tune, giving an improved mid range torque and lifting the performance well over 190Ps when used in conjunction with optimised intake and exhaust systems. Key elements of the 190ps VHPD engine are. * Motorsport big valve cylinder head. * Mechanical valve gear. * Uprated valve springs * Uprated forged pistons. * Uprated forged conrods. * Uprated forged crankshaft. * Stainless steel inlet and exhaust valves. * Rev limit set at 7800rpm. * EFI ECU with unique PTP 190 tune. For customers wishing to upgrade their VHPD engine to 2001 model year spec, the EFI ECU and PTP multi throttle inlet manifold can be purchased seperately, please contact us for further details. SVA emission compliancy can be achieved but is vehicle application dependent, please contact us for further details. * 100kg DRY WEIGHT * INCORPORATING UNIQUE RACING COMPONENTS * IN-LINE OR TRANSVERSE INSTALLATION * POWERING TWO ONE MAKE RACE SERIES IN 1998 * SUPPLIED TO THREE OE MANUFACTURERS All performance figure's achieved by dynometer test results at the flywheel with optimised intake and exhaust.

Are all K series engines like this or can it be rectified by a milder choice of cam etc etc?

Compared to the K are the toyota engines reliable and useable enough to justify the price difference?

I dont care about the price of fuel and economy of the engine, i wont be driving all that much (i keep telling myself anyway)
Maybe up to 3/4k a year.

Another question i had was weight difference between s1/s2 elise and exige.

jj what do you have now?

craig and stuart mind if i give you a shout when i get back to have a look round your cars?

No wories mate just give me a shout.
Cheers

No probs just give us a shout when you want to have a look. Mine is a s2 elise rover engine non vvc. If it's only for posing and polishing, then you would probably be better with a S2 Elise, any engine. The elise and the exige both handle really well (exige obviously better - most people agree), but common etiquette is that you don't take the roof off the exige. With the elise on a dry day the roof is never on, it doesn' t matter how hot / cold it is. And being the milky bar kid you could probably do with the tan  I would still love an exige though - s1 or s2!

PS - you can also get a hard top for the elise, and it looks like a different car compared to what it looks like with the soft top on. I have a hard top for mine if you want to see the difference.

Cheers,
Stuart

As Ken says, ive had PAX shots in his Exige, and Nizzy's Elise.
Both bloody good and both totally different beasties.
From what im looking at so far and what you lot are saying, im looking for a driveable car i can use at most speeds and yes id rather have a removeable lid but thats negotiable...
Since i still dont have a garage i cant get a 340 :( or an atom (yes different marque but still in the firing line :P)
Im thinking of hanging back until i can buy something outright, im pickig up a '98 audi S4 as a runaround next month.
Heritage etc, to be honest dont mean all that much to me. Im not knocking it, im just not swayed by it.
Im thinking S2 toyota, or an engine swapped model with S/C alternate engine.

Whens the next meet?
Ill have a wee look through the events threads..... no doubt in there, but limited time on net out here.

Keith ill do that mate cheers.
