Cheers for the replies guys, most helpful! (except Thinforth and Jon, you may be right but you can't tell a woman).
All of the hotels you've posted look good, especially the Haxton one. Shoomer, what's the best airport to fly to for that and how easy is it to get to from the airport? Is it walkable to trafalgar/buckingham palace/hyde park type area? The only downside is that it's slightly further out that the others I've looked at (not by much though).
Easyjet flights to Stansted were working out about £120 return, BA to LHR or LGW about £190. Willing to pay the difference for allocated seats and a more convenient location though. Plus I'd get American Airlines points- every little helps!
Keep the suggestions coming, the more Brownie points the better

And for glamorous suroundings for an early evening drink, the older hotels are difficult to beat - Claridges, Ritz, the newly refurbished Connaught. Avoid over-priced afternoon teas for tourists - for the price of a drink you get good people-watching.

Hi Steve,
I used to work down the smoke for far too long but finally escaped, the best thing abt London is the road out but if u got to go.
Try the likes of laterooms.com for rooms as they have some cracking deals at less than half list price.
If you're planning on seeing a show, unless she wants to see a specific one, it's worth going to the official ticket office in the centre
of Leicester Square, not the touts n booths around it promising best deals in town etc. go past them right into the square itself.
There you'll get tickets for pretty much all the shows at half price for that afternoon or evening's performance, allowing u to spend
more on what u or ur lady like.
You'll be using taxi's or public transport, if you're using public transport London Transport do a daily travelcard that's valid on buses, tubes
and trains allowing you to just hop on and off as you like for abt £5 each per day.
Oh pls bear in mind Harrods isn't open Sunday
all the best Lachlan

Cheers for that mate
Went to book the hotel Shoomoer suggested but it was fully booked for one of the nights. Was available two days earlier when I first looked
Currently deciding whether to change dates or chose another hotel.
