Supercharged S2 Elise TT230 appears in Classifieds

Post by calumski » Mon May 26, 2008 10:11 am

Here's a rare opportunity ...

You normally have to travel to deepest England to find one of these but here's one for sale up in Bonnie Scotland. A rare thing indeed! :drive

Please don't take the following wrong, as it's just a genuine question but -

Has this not been up for sale for over a year now? I saw it up for sale a LONG long time ago. And I was advised by someone not to touch it (as I loved the look of it) due to the conversion being very unrealiable? :?:

All the best with the sale though :thumbsup Still love the look of it 8)

Good luck with the sale, it's a well sorted car - still remember the geo discussions on SE1 :D

Not entirely sure where you got all that from.

I'm the second owner and it's been totally reliable for both me and its original owner. It's history is completely traceable. It's only covered 14K miles yet many TT conversions cover large mileages.

The whole point of the TT conversion is that it's not a bolt-on job, asking so much more of the standard components. It is a £10K engine rebuild, using low-compression, so that it creates an engine idealy suited to high-mileage road work rather than simply track days. Have a read of the link to the Turbo Technics site on the Pistonheads page.

So, to be absolutely clear:

No, this has not been for sale for a year
No, it has not been unreliable and neither are these conversions in general.

It is a cracking car and only for sale since I simply have no time to use it.

To alay any concerns anyone may have, this car has the following in addition to the standard conversion:

The head has been re-skimmed, therefore hugely reducing the charge of an HGF from the K series. This work was done by TT at the time of the conversion.

Additional Oil Cooler Kit fitted.

Mac ... thanks for your support. To be honest, I'd not be sad if I don't sell ... it makes me smile :D

X7LDA .. I appreciate your offer to retract but no need. It was an honest question and I'd rather keep things transparent.

Cheers

*off topic*
THIS POST IS NOT RELATED TO THE SALE OF calumski's CAR!!!

Regarding comments posted already by X7LDA and jj.

I think X7LDA's comments are useful questions regarding the car, and potentially warning a member of the community about a dodgy car is a good idea that everyone should continue to do so. It may not help with the sale, in fact it may hinder it, but that's the whole point. Why should someone suffer having bought a car with issues that other formites had kept quiet about simply to benefit the wallet of the seller (and thus hindering the wallet of the buyer)?!

In the past, i've been on a few motoring websites, and there were often warnings posted about cars being fixed poorly and in fact being dangerous (fibreglass filler in structural sills kinda stuff) and I believe these should be posted. It may be standing on the sellers toes, but they should suffer and not the buyer!

Beside, this thread shouldn't help the sale of the car as it's in General Chat, where we talk about stuff. Surely 'Classifieds' exists solely so this thread doesn't have to!

Chris

Corranga, you are stating the obvious- it has happened before (in fact X7LDA got good info on a car he was considering buying by posting up) and nobody would disagree with the "letting folk know about dodgy cars".

The following is a general comment, not directed at anyone involved directly or indirectly with the thread...

Potential negative comments about a car for sale was the primary reason the Classified section was made a 'no reply' zone. I guess if you take the risk of posting about a classified item in general chat you forgo the protection afforded. Some fora simply delete for sale posts or links to them posted in an inappropriate area as I've found to my cost recently!

Best of luck with the sale Calumski :thumbsup

Corranga - Well said :thumbsup But at the same time I don't want to put anyone off as I do not know the facts. I only know that I had seen it before for sale and it was up a "while" as I looked at it (and it had the same pictures). I asked a very respected source (that most people prob know) and he told me what he had heard. I also then posted up on here about the TT conversion to discuss and I remember it was slated, (I think shoomer posted a pic of a green one on the back of a trailer? ) So i left it and continued my search elsewhere.

JJ - Spot on, which is why I asked. I never went for that Exige and I couldn't be happier. I know where it ended up however and it has been fine since, but from a re-sale point of view (not that I want to sell, EVER 8) ) it would have struggled, so glad I stayed clear and spent a bit more. SE guys really helped me out, and put the level head on rather than just going for it.

Also, I wouldn't have asked the questions I did if I knew the member, but I see a lot of ppl registering for SE and its clear the sole purpose it to use it to sell their car. And there is nothing wrong with that, just means I don't know the background that's all.

I never meant to cause any problems. If it's clean like you say then goodluck, again, I loved it when I saw it and that's why I investigated it further. :thumbsup

Cheers Greg ... appreciated.

I made the General Chat posting since this is the sort of interesting car that a forum member might be glad to know about even though they are not actively looking and therefore would miss the Classifieds entry.

I think the problem is that people new to Elise ownership want low mileage unmodified cars so that decreases your market. I'd imagine that the type of buyer that would be interested in your car would want the OZ package though, so if I was you, I get them fitted and update your photos.

I think that unfortunately the much talked about 260 conversion TT unsuccessfully dabbled with has tainted the publics perceived reliability record of the 230 conversions. Forums can be misleading, you tend to only hear of the problem cars (lots of 260 problems) and never hear of the ones running faultlessly.

BTW I think that looks like a great road car and if you want a newish S2 with a bit more poke then there's not really anything else for the money...in fact wanna PX for an Exige
