The VX Replacement

It's been a great 3 year ownership period with the VX220, but the time came to move on to something new (partly to keep the wife happy as her daily commute in the VX wasn't being well received!).

So I collect my new Alpina Roadster S on Saturday which I'm really looking forward to.

For those that haven't seen one/aren't aware of the car, there are only 167 in the UK. They start life as a BMW Z4 before Alpina steal the car and replace the bumpers, skirts, spoilers, wheels, suspension, interior, exhaust and most improtantly the engine. It is based on the 3L E36 M3 (non-Evo) engine which is then turned into a nice 3.4L end product. Result being 300-320bhp, 270 lb/ft torque, 0-60 in 5sec and an unrestricted top speed of 170mph! :D

Not the quite fitting with the light is best ethos, but I do plan to hang around here for a bit longer (if that's allowed!).

Nice, had a look about on pistonheads at the alpinas and seen very few Z4's.

Only thing I would change about it is the indicator lenses all round to the face lift model clear/smoked, don't know how easy that would be ???

Drove my mates which was a 2.2 auto :thumbsdown pretty boring, somehow I think this is a different kind of beast all together :D

Agreed. The regular Z4 doesn't seem to get a great write up, but this one seems not too bad! It has been timed as lapping the ring faster than the E46 M3.

It isn't that hard to change the side and rear "orange" indicator lenses, and from memory isn't that expensive, but unfortunately the front ones are part of the headlight unit and are more expensive to replace. I'll probably get round to it at some point though. Also think a private plate might be in order.

I think that's the best "pimp my ride" I've seen in a long time!

The Z4 doesn't do it for me but that's a great effort. Enjoy!
