two things learned yesterday

Post by Pat02 » Sat Jun 03, 2006 9:33 am

It was hotter yesterday than I gave it credit for. Was off work (as I am in today  ), went on a jolly down the A7 to Galashiels. I have burnt my forearms, my forehead and my nose, who would have thought that....having said that, it was sooo worth it, A7 was quite, had big chunks of it to myself. As I was on my own, I was blaring out '80s music (hey, I am an old fart). What a way to de-stress...pure magic..!!!! :P

2nd thing learned (although I feel I should have known this), when you set the alarm (S2), there are movement sensors in the cab. I jumped back in, all hell broke loose. As a point where are they hidden?, I have spents...oh seconds looking, cannot see them.

Ah well, might as well get back to pretending to work....

Pat,

It's a microwave sensor and it's located behind the plastic bit to the rear of the seats.

IIRC there is a way it disarm it, so that you don't get false alarms but can't rememeber how at the moment.

HTH BPD (hope that helps but probably doesn't)

Pat,
On the later S2's with the Cobra Alarm you set the Alarm as normal (with the big button) then within 20 seconds press the little button twice (the alarm will 'beep' but not sound on each press). This will disable the internal sensor so that you can leave the car with the roof off but not have false alarms. I actually have to do this when I put my car in my garage with the roof on as the change of pressure ?!? from shutting the garage door triggers the alarm. I asked MMC about changing the sensitivity on the internal sensor but they said it was a no no due to the Thatcham Cat 1 approval and may be an issue in the event of an insurance claim.

Hope this is of some use to you.

Cheers,

John

I do the same thing every night when I park outside due to heavy rain setting the alarm off.
Wasn't going down well with the neighbours every time it started to rain heavily at 3am!
Seems to work, though hoping that now into "summer", I'll not need to do it.

My S1 has a master alarm switch under the dash :-) That tends to sort out all false alarms :-)

The S2 Exige does go off whenever I open the garage door, but not when I close it (that's if I lock the doors, which I don't normally do).

I read in the manual that the alarm sensitivity is preset at the factory and shouldn't require altering - read that as it will need to be altered if you want it to work. One thing that works really well is peeling the velcro off the back
and stuff it behind the seats - then the sensor just sees the reflections from the bulkhead and never goes off!

Cheers,
Robin

Speaking of velcro - the microwave sensor on my S1 is located on the bulkhead with velcro, as you'd imagine. It's just both bits are the 'hook' side - built with care by Norfolk turnip farmers!

Mines the same shug, or at least i thought it was :? . I pressed it quite hard and they sort of clicked together. It's seems it's a sort of much tougher velcro. :? :D

No - it's 2 same sides of velcro. They do work if you push hard, but it's not exactly how it's designed to be used....

Yeah, I've got that in mine too. It's exactly this sort of thing that I love about lotus :D (My fave's still the comedy leaky roof though!)
