Website help, somewhere to host a couple of files?

Post by jj » Tue Feb 10, 2009 9:37 am

I have a flash-based website I want to host somewhere that I can point a domain name to.

I used to put it on a friends server via an FTP thing and then point my domain at where I put the file and it worked a treat, but its not working and I need to upload it somewhere asap. I dont really know what I am doing, so if anyone has ideas of a place I can do this easily could they pm me please?

Thanks :thumbsup

Web Developer
Erica (my other half) is a web developer with a few years industry experience, becoming self employed as of now following redundancy and lack of jobs.

She has worked on everything from estate agency sites to gift craft websites, with everything from content management, e-commerce and events calendars to simple web sites and newsletters.
Based in Dundee, but will travel to meet clients.

She is also working with a kick designer. They have worked together for a good few years and work together well.

Contact me for examples of their work and/or to get in contact with her.

Might be able to help - you got control of domain name?

your site get much traffic?

is it a business or just personal stuff?

need emails via the domain?

I control hosting for one of my employers - might be able to get something setup for you for free or min cost (principally our expense).

btw im not too much of an interloper - im woodys bro - he pointed it out to me.

Its only a 2mb flash-based site - traffic wouldnt be more than 500 hits a month max as its pretty target specific.

I have the domain / access to the control panel/ and use the webmail for it at the moment and it costs me £20 a year or something.

If you know of a better way for me to do it I am all ears. Domain is with fasthosts, but for some reason I cant work out how to upgrade it to hosting as well as domain + email.

Hi, I'm Erica (corranga's other half).

Sounds like The Doomed can sort you out a pretty good deal but if you want to stick with fasthosts just email them and tell them you want the hosting as well (you might be able to set up a support ticket from your control panel but I can't swear to this as I don't use fasthosts). Or you could phone the sales dept and they will set it up for you.

Hope that helps :)

Its relatively easy to upgrade with fasthosts as far as Im aware - cost would be £4.99 PCM + vat (or £49.99 PA + vat)

Alternatively, I'll run it by my boss but sure we'll do it for £25 PA + vat if you want. Been told free aint an option any more for non-staff sites.
-it would be all up and running for you by noon tomorrow.

Hosting space would meet your current needs - cant recall current cap but its well above your needs!
FTP access to server.
Can add up to 5 domains and I'd map them to same web space if desired.
In terms of email... Includes webmail, auto-reponders, forwards & catch-all functionality.

You'd still have to hold the domain in fasthosts and point the dns over to our server - thats easy enough.

up to you. feel free to PM me for more info.
