Following this with great interest, not even going to bore you with my paltry collection but suffice to say feel a very strong urge for another watch coming on..............
I have a 'sub' and SWBO has a pearl faced oyster datejust, had them about 7 years and have been meaning to get them serviced.
Main stumbling block is who do I trust with them and how much is it going to cost me?????

Ouch! But I suppose thats the price you pay for having a decent watch, any recommendations on where or more importantly ones to avoid, BTW I am in Aberdeen :cheers

...........and the rest. 14 weeks mine was away for.

And it was sent back damaged so will have to be returned again for repair. Don't let that put you off though, it's well worth the money and your watch will come back in as new condition. £200-£250 isn't really that much to spend if you even it out over 5-7 yrs.

Put my Jaeger-Le-Coultre in to Jamieson and Carry in Aberdeen (Jaeger and Rolex dealers) - for a service, came back 3 months later - bill £350 including a new crown and strap and beautifully polished - well worth it - report etc was all in French so i reckon it went back to the factory in Switzerland for service.

God damn this a a lenghty thread !

Got an Omega Seamaster myself ( relatively dull I know but I love it for the functionality and rugged look).
Had it since 2001 and it's been serviced once. Great believer in treating a watch as a tool so it goes with me 24-7 inside engine bays, mountain bking etc etc.

I am hell-bent on keeping time so always sync it with UTC ( GPS satellite time), However, recently the old girl has been losing 2 mins a day which is most uncharacteristic. Time for a change me finks. Whenit behaved itself it only lost 2-3 seconds a month.

I guess now it a good time to buy a watch. Anyone know weher to get good deals ? I am Schipol with work quite often and duty free seems a winner on occasion.

Cheers

Err...... I got to about 12 pages then jumped about after the casio v rolex debate style got started

A service for £140 does not seem like good value unless I intend to keep it for a few more years. Far more tempted to sell it & embark on a new time piece journey

Cal

p.s
what doe eash of these stand for ? i assume it's not a Mclaren SLR and that you don;t work on a Diver Support Vessel :?:

CR - Wet track spec
SLR - Dry track spec
DSV - Special occassion spec
E - Restoration spec

I've got a Seiko Automatic from abour 12 years ago nothing flash ~just a bright yellow face :D :D which sat in the drawer for years since it was gaining 20mins/day which I just had serviced by Seiko UK £106 which was away and back in 10 days and actually keeps better time than the Rolex Submariner which I bought in Sept although I much prefere it with a military strap

I still havn't got myself a everyday watch. The power of Evo andvertising has led me to this

Anyone heard anything abut EmaS?

PS I like rose gold and it would be a change from the normal silver of my other watches.
