Experience purchasing/insuring Cat D motors?

Hey folks

Im considering purchasing the motor linked below. It is Cat D (repaired).

The story from the seller is that the car got hit from behind when owned by a previous driver in '04. The ins coy declared it cat d and paid the owner the value of the car, then the owner bought the car back off the company to fix himself. Since then, the car has made its merry way to Northern Ireland, and rapidly into my budget range. I also note that the panel (lamp washer unit) below the headlights on the passenger side doesn't quite align with the lights/bonnet/bumper - indication of damage?

Any insurance considerations? I know this will obviously be difficult to resell but its a car id like to think id keep for a good while!
Any advice/personal horror stories appreciated!

There should be no problem for a CAT D car that was just body damaged and repaired properly, though it must have been fairly substantial for the Insurance company to write it off.

Make sure however that the asking price reflects it. As for resale, some buyers would not touch it, whilst others like yourself would go for it due to a lower price. I like the asking price at the top of the advert, £975,000.

I have boiught Cat D before with no problems with insurance at all, price seems a bit steep at £975,000 You can buy undamaged for that sort of cash even at £9,750 you can get undamaged E46 M3's So I'm out....

yeh the price is obviously meant to be be 9,750. Ill be contacting him again but I suppose his insurance policy was "new for old", would the insurance company just write this off then? im not up to speed on any of this sort of stuff, having only ever contacted my insurance company to get a quote!!!

Lolz- DVLA wil have 000`s of M333 plates at 250ish notes, so I wouldnt go banking on getting £800 for it.

Its too expensive, its running in service (a tad important) was late, its been smashed up, it has no options and it doesnt look in great nick, and the advert has text speak.

Its your choice at the end of the day and you sound like you have made your mind up so good luck with it, but you did ask

ahh no ive far from made my mind up, i cant get about purchasing anything ANYWAY until my Elise has been sold. and im feckin off for a few weeks next friday so realistically wont be gettin anything till mid december, enough time till then to think about it all, and perhaps (and hopefully) find something better. just wanted to know what you all thought to be honest, and fortunately youve all made me a bit more wary.
