Re: Linux on home servers (FALC)

TBH I hadn't seen WHS before. Looks good. As I store all my family pics solely on the NAS, a proper RAID setup is essential for protection of stuff I don't want to lose. I've been playing with BOXEE for accessing my media, pretty slick for something still in Beta.

Re: Linux on home servers (FALC)
Not tried it to be honest. Having said that, the shares use both uPNP (for streaming) and SMB (for file manipulation) and the admin interface is web-based so most functionality shouldn't be affected. Only issues I can think of would be the remote access and the backup - both of which can be resolved with free 3rd party programs. How is WHS at working with Macs ?

I might have to look at that. Was thinking about an NVX but they're a bit on the expensive side. Other options a home server but I'm not sure I like the Microsoft aspectDDtB wrote:ReadyNAS Duo...with 2 x 1TB discs in it at the moment...

knew a few folk that used components from this site to reduce noise for a PC in the living room, reality is there are so many dedicated media servers on the market these days that do a job almost as good as a PC ...
Re: Linux on home servers (FALC)
NAS stuff has fans on it too remember..... quiet ones.... but you might want to check them out before deciding whether or not to install in the living room!!
