Another Defector (SLC)

Post by Peter76 » Tue May 25, 2010 10:26 pm

Well, after being quite unhappy for a long time at my old work, it was finally time to do something about it. I started my new job two months ago, however, this meant not having a company car anymore and the Exige had always been a third car. I always knew I probably wouldn't want to live with it on a daily basis - don't get me wrong, I'm sure I could have but I'd already had the car for two years, having only intended to keep it for about a year anyway, but discovered what everyone on here already knew about Elises/Exiges - that they are absolutely fantastic fun. Had two years of superb fun. Did a number of runs and met loads of local enthusiasts, did the LOT day at Knockhill, where I found out I had a bit more confidence than talent, spinning the car three times, worst one coming off going into Duffus. Thank f*ck for the gravel trap is all I can say. Have since heard a worse story since running into one of the 'locals' recently at the Dutch Mill!! Had hoped to get back on track again, but my confidence took a bit of knock and I was concerned at doing serious damage to the car and kept putting it off. Took part in the Clannonball Run, which was quite possibly the wettest run ever, and had dozens of fantastic drives with the missus (to be) up to Aviemore, Ballater, Buckie. I think the Exige has covered most of the roads in the NE of Scotland now. I think my two best drives had to be the time I followed Gary (Hendeg) down to Knockhill via Glenshee, with my mate Alan as passenger who loved every minute, for the AMP3 trackday last year. The second one was the NE Xmas run, where it was a bit damp, but the car felt absolutely brilliant, and I felt more confident driving it than ever.

Anyway, Graeme came up from Edinburgh at the beginning of April to collect the best car I've ever owned, and with some reluctance I handed him the keys. It really started to hit home at this point what I was doing, after all, I didn't really have to sell it! So the Exige is gone. :( :( :(

So obviously I had to buy something else. Something a bit more practical, and easier to climb in and out of. I looked at a few options including a Focus ST, a BMW 330i Coupe, and an Audi S3. Really liked the Focus, but had the feeling if I bought the ST, I'd be annoyed with myself for not buying the RS........So started to look at RS's and quickly came to the conclusion I might as well buy a brand new one, which arrived last week........

So this will be my transport for the foreseaable future, however, I know one thing for sure - I will be buying another Exige or even an Elise at some point, not sure when but my initial thoughts are to buy an S1 Elise for track use, when I can find some funds again. Anyway, off to get married in four weeks and get myself sorted out with my new job - can't believe how busy the year has been so far, this being another reason for selling the Exige, it just wasn't seeing very much use. Hopefully when we get back from our honeymoon in July I will get some time to myself again!!

Anyway, thanks to everybody on here for the advice during my two years of ownership, and don't worry I will be back down to Knockhill to blag a few pax laps now and again! I might even take up Gary and Neil on their offers of the pax seats on future runs. And if anyone see's a white Focus RS flashing at them around Aberdeen, it is probably me! :thumbsup

Congrats,

I liked the ST a lot, so I'm sure the RS is a wee belter.

FWIW I've had a not-so-good start to the year job wise, so I know how you feel. However I'm sure you'll bounce back.

Is that the Science park in Bridge of Don by any chance?
Cheers,

Simon

Sorry for your loss. Lovely RS though, and don't forget it's a good track weapon too. :D

And don't I know it!! Still have the Exige as wallpaper on the Laptop and PC upstairs. Going to get a couple of black & white photos framed and on the wall.

Four weeks until the wedding, guess it had to be done sooner or later. All my weekends recently have been stag doos or weddings or sorting gift lists, honeymoon or some other wedding stuff. Will be glad when it's done! Looking forward to the big day - it' costing enough.

 Been there! So know what you are going through! Except Alan decided he wanted to move a couple of months before our wedding so we ended up moving house the week before!! muchos stressfulness! Men!!

Hope you are happier in your new job Peter, I remember you saying a while ago you wanted to move on. Sometimes it just has to be done, and sacrifices have to be made, for the bigger picture, but I do hope to see you in another lotus soon!!

Jen

PS- Are you coming to curry night next week? Would be great to see you both again!
