Here are my feeble efforts:

Here, just to be different, I've greyed the car, not everything else :-)

Image

Here I've deliberately made the car more "sunset" ...

John - I hope you don't mind me (ab)using your photos like this :-)

Cheers,
Robin

If you are using Photoshop and are selecting a hard edged object (like a car) then you may want to try using Photoshop's Path tools.
They will let you define a clean curved edge that can be hard to replicate by using lasso tools or other hand-painted techniques.

Eg.

In Photoshop I would copy the layer your photo is on, desaturate / convert to b+w that whole later, then apply a layer mask to 'cut out' areas and let the original colour layer show through.
This way you can easily combine techniques like Paths and hand-painting to produce your layer mask. Its a less 'destructive' way of working that means you can easily undo changes you have made :)

ok, so here is my 1st attempt - just a quick one, the idea is that when i do this properly, the car and all of the red leaves will be in colour and the rest will be B+W...

Lookin good :)

I'd certainly do it using a layer for the B&W part and another for the colour if you are going to put some time in. That way you can easily adjust the effects independently.

(Nice car :))
