Hotel Suggestion for this weekend

Post by JTBush » Mon Nov 01, 2010 4:08 pm

Im getting married on Friday and were off to Skye for our Honeymoon on Saturday. The owner of the cottage were going to told me its not a good idea to arrive in the dark as the track is pretty rough to the cottage (only just found out). Therefore, were looking to stop somewhere on the way up from Durham to Skye. Was thinking somewhere round Loch Lomond as its halfway but if anyones got any recommendations for a nice place anywhere between Glasgow and Fort William then it would be appreciated.

Due to short notice its proving difficult to find anywhere nice with any rooms.

Hi

Cogratulations on your forthcoming nuptuals

Loch Lomond area will be busy at weekends so you may wish to choose an east coast route ?

A1/A68/EDINBURGH/STIRLING/CRIEFF/CRIANLARICH ETC to Fort William
I would look for a hotel near your chosen route as Fort William is not known for its lavish hotels and fine dining!!

Allow 6 hours from Durham to Fort William....... and remember it will be dark up here anytime after 1500 hrs if today is anything to go by

Could try Broomhall Castle in Menstrie where we are having out Christmas doo, it is just outside Stirling and is a lovely place.

mhor.net - fantastic food / rooms, about 5 miles off the callander / crianlarich road

Not cheap tho! Might get a discount if they have a room / late booking?

That looks really nice. Costs more for one night than Im paying for the week on Skye though

Although, the Holly tree is £190 for bed breakfast and meal so not too far from that. Well, if the "cheap" rooms are available!

Been there several times and would happily recommend :thumbsup - though most recent stay was Nov 2007 and I think they've done a lot of work since then.

Or just outside fort william here http://www.oldpines.co.uk/

Went a few years back and it was awesome, rooms basic but food superb! Would check recent reviews on tripadviser etc first though in case it's changed hands!

Tried cameron house, dan. Made mistake of showing it to Ellie! Only room left was well north of 300 and she did her best to persude me we should stay there! just booked holly tree!

Wimped out of taking the Elise. Taking my Dads scooby due to Ellie wanting to take her whole wardrobe so she will have something to wear for the trips to the 3 chimneys!

Isles of Glencoe hotel near Ballachulish is nice. Should be good value this time of year, has pool, jacuzzi and sauna, really nice restaurant at sensible prices, log-burner in the middle of the lounge, and friendly staff.

Really miss it actually - haven't been for about 3 years now, used to be a regular every winter :-)
