Current car market
Is anyone finding it a bit slow just now when trying to sell their car?
I've had mine up for sale for about 10 weeks and although I've had interest its still in my garage. I'm guessing its just the current financial climate, just wish that it would either sell so I can get started on new project or win lotto so I could make the Exige my project LOL.
Your feedback would be appreciated.

Re: Current car market
Is it the orange Exige you are selling?
If so I guess it's not the best time of year for it. I would have thought next summer would be a prime time unless another bigger and better model appears..

Re: Current car market
I suspect people looking to get into a Lotus will be looking for / expecting a bargain at this time of year. Unless your car stands out as unique or is cheaper than the rest of the ads it is simply one of many. Peter is probably right summer ( or spring ) is the time to sell to get good money. You probably need to decide if it's worth dropping the price to make it stand out or pay the price of keeping / running it for another 4-5 months and hold your nerve on price.
I would add that I am no expert in this field and above is based on what I would be thinking if I was a buyer. - I also haven't checked your ad so don't know how competitively your car is priced.

Re: Current car market
I think I'm advertising it at a good price looking at what else is on the market. Its a very individual colour as well which might not be to everyones taste. Will keep advertising it and see what happens. You're probably right about time of year, so if I need to hold onto it till next spring then I suppose I have no choice.
Cheers.

I am sure there are a number of factors which have been mentioned above. I do however think that the value of an exige S is at the upper end for a punter buying with confidence privately. Other than the small number of SE members who know you and would no doubt prefer to buy your car and get a bargain, you are relying solely on "strangers". I am not sure how you bought your car, dealer or private, but consider your thought process at the time. I think the majority of people like the "piece of mind" of buying from a dealer at this level of investment. There are those who have the confidence to buy privately and will in the majority of cases bag a bargain.
I found out in September when I sold my N/A that the UK market isn't too buoyant. Mine went to Belgium with only 2 look warm enquiries from the UK. I had more genuine interest from an Australian lad than I had from the UK.
Just had a look at your ad and it's OK although now expired so you need to renew it which will get it back to the top of the list. I would lose the bit about being "2 door convertible, petrol".
As been said before, everything has a price and either no one is looking or those who are looking do not yet believe that it is the right value for money for them. Hang in there and keep bumping your ad back to the top of the PH list.

Williams Automobiles in Bristol have a wanted ad on Pistonheads for S2 Exiges. Will almost certainly be offering low end of the scale money but for the sake of an e-mail or phone call it might be worth a try?

Cars will sell, it's all about whether they'll sell for what you want to sell them for.

Re: Current car market
Interesting. Looking at the prices on Pistonheads I had got the impression that the market was pretty buoyant. Certainly the prices of early NA Exiges don't seem to have dropped much at all since I sold mine late last year. Of course you never know the difference between the advertised price and what people actually end up selling for. Can't be the best time of year to sell a semi-slick shod road racer though, so if you had to hold on until spring I doubt you would loose out.

Re: Current car market
If you're desperate to sell, drop the price. If nopt, wait till March/April.

Re: Current car market
got to say i was suprised that the 340R didnt move, despite huge levels of initial interest, and that fact that mine was £7 cheaper, with the new 44mm Nitrons! (which were the best bit of £2k, with Springs at cost!)
Its going off to get tidied up and readied for a Spring sale now - shame - thought an interested 340R person would be there happy to get a bargain

Re: Current car market
The 340R is a very nice market within a niche market though Andy and most buyers in that very small niche would be looking for a garage queen.
Regardless of price or condition a 340R is not the sort of car that usuaslly sells particularly quickly as with something like that you need to wait for the right buyer for that specific car.
You're better of tidying it up, sticking it up for £26-27k and waiting for that right buyer to come along.

Re: Current car market
At this time of year most are only thinking about Christmas and not buying cars. Tend to find you can push for a much better deal from the trade from now into the start of January. So if the trade is quite it follows that the private market will be as well. That and it isn't exactly Lotus weather right now.
Good luck

you'd need to clock it to get that sort of money

Re: Current car market
we have this chat - then some nice chap from Sweden gets in touch!
Sure someone on SE doesnt want it before the 340R become rarer still??
