To complain or not to complain?
Couple of questions.
There was a thread kicking around a couple of weeks ago surrounding the whole taking the clam off for new windscreen issue and the way MMC rip you off if your glass policy has a limit of under a thousand quid. I made a few calls, moved the clam forward myself and now have a shinny new screen. All to the good and definitely recommend it to anyone who would rather spend an hour of their time (to move it forward and put it back) than £500 of their cash.
Anyway, when autoglass did the job they temporarily secured the new screen with masking tape, unfortunately when they took it off it remover little dots of paint from the matt black frame around the screen.
Question, shout about them having damaged the paint? Seems to me there was probably a bit of oxidisation below the paint, but it was unmarked before and is a mess now. Thoughts?
Second question, will I fail an MOT because the rubber of my driver side track rod end is a bit perished? There does not seem to be too much play in it, just looks a bit past its best.
Thanks guys
Graham

Paint lofting won't be oxidisation - the frame is fibreglass. You'd be advised to speak to Autoglass about it (with pics) They might see it as a grey area as you did some work yourself, but obviously that would have no effect on the windscreen frame.Titanium S1 111S (gla) wrote:Couple of questions.

MOT, I'm not sure about. Worth replacing it ASAP anyway, as when it fails it'll let shyte into the cup at the end of the steering rack and you'll require a recon before long...

The paint has come off the section of the roll cage which screen bonds to at the top, left and right. That’s not fibre glass is it
Must be alloy. You are probably right in saying that they will try to blame me for the paint coming off although it is so ludicrous that I’ll tell them where to go (using my most suttle lawyer speak)
Know you are right about the track rod end but MOT runs out on Sat and don't know if I can get a new one and find time to fit it before then. Have a couple of new Advans coming up from Elise Parts so will give them a call and see if they can through one in before they dispatch.
Thanks as always.

That is the windscreen surround and it's a foam core layered in fibreglass... That's why you do not use it as a handle to haul yourself out...Titanium S1 111S (gla) wrote:The paint has come off the section of the roll cage which screen bonds to at the top, left and right. Rollover structure is the MSA approved bar behind the seats - windscreen just folds in a roll.

I stand corrected. Think I will complain then, if they smother the thing in masking tape and it pulls all the paint off then I recon they should fix it.
I had thought it was alloy, which we all know is difficult to make paint stick to so was reluctant to kick up a fuss but as it is plastic I’m after new paint, or at least a cheque.
