Mother in laws...

Post by r055 » Sat Apr 02, 2011 7:59 am

First time in two years of marriage I've realised what all the fuss is with them...
I now understand what everyone goes on about!

On parking her new 2 week old mx-5 in my drive (I had to do it as she can't reverse), I got out and she said "Do you want to see how easy it is to get roof off?"

So she jumped in and pressed the button... Nothing
Then she proceeded to start the engine.
Now, I always leave the cars in gear - apparently she doesn't.

On cranking the engine the car shot back and drove up the front clam of the Elise!!!!!
At this moment she said "ooooopps" , looking all sheepish
Then put handbrake on, still sitting on top of the lotus

Shouted at her to move forward so she moved about an inch forward and started to play around with the fcuking roof
Shouted at her again... "YOU'RE ON TOP OF THE FCUKING LOTuS!!!"

Penny dropped, she moved forward clear of my car and then got out in a panic "IS MY CAR ALRIGHT!!!!???!?!!?"

No mate, the subject would include NLC otherwise!

What do you want a picture of the mother in law for?

I wish they'd make it a standard thing to force drivers to dip the clutch before the car can start. Hope it can be sorted with minimal fuss.

Oh dear. It's the old question about whether or not to leave it in gear - it only works if everyone does it (I don't, but try to remember to dip the clutch anyway when starting.)

How bad the damage?

If it doesn't I think Ross should be allowed to open it manually with a large blade from the kitchen.

Sorry to hear the Lotus is damaged - she reversed into you though remember so insurance claim shouldn't do you too much damage if you go down that route

Oh and I never leave the car in gear unless on a hill.

 yeah the hard top convertible roof is really good if you like that sort of thing!
Just gave car a good check there... Trusty old S1 clamshell is fine. Some scuff marks but the shed like appearance is intact. Not remedial work required, I think.

What really pissed me off was when she said, "never mind that, my car is worth a hell of a lot more than THAT!".
You know, you can go right off some people.

Do they go to some sort of training course to speak to son in laws the right way to annoy the fcuk out if you?!?

Anyway, she offered me a shot of it... I'm in two minds now.
A) do I take it out for a spin with her in PAX and rag it, trying to get the back end out on a roundabout; or
B) tell her I don't want a shot, cause I think MX5s are just totally sh1t

Shocking.

Option A. Burn the clutch a bit for good measure. :thumbsup
If you can't bring yourself to do that, a hurl round a round about will work

That's pretty rubbish isn't it? Much damage?

Does this mean that S1's are now included in the Lego Elise category?
I seem to remember another incident with someone by the name of Ross and starting the car in gear.

Take it out but only to the end of the street before getting out handing her the keys tell her it's utter gash and walk back as it's a more pleasurable experience.
