N.I.P today.

Post by looth » Thu Apr 07, 2011 11:12 am

Guys,
NIP landed through my door this morning....but it was not by recorded delivery. 83 in a 70....doh.
Am I right in thinking I can just bin it as there's no proof that I received it?

thanks in advance

I'm gonna be contraversial......if you were speeding why not just take the points and pay the fine?

pepipoo.com is probably the best place for advice on this.

Meatball, in some instances I'd agree with your sentiment, but not for 83 in a 70. But we're never going to see eye-to-eye on that matter, are we?

Ooft.

83 in a 70.

I was remiss enough to creep to 82 in a 70 about 4 years ago, and got NIPped for it as well. Really close to the wire :-( But the rules is the rules eh.

Also don't think my NIP arrived Recorded, however I did ask to see the photos before coughing up.

Most expensive action shots of me in the car that I can recall ;-)

Nope.
Its 13 mph above the LIMIT....and you're saying that you agree with telling lies to try to get off with it.

I believe we should take responsibilty for our actions.....by all means speed if that is what you want to do.....if you get caught don't whine or try to wriggle out of it!

They do not send NIP's recorded anymore so you can not use that line.

Nor can they prove you recieved (apart from this thread :damnfunny )- must be costs cutting.

Why you'd send any document pertaining to a legal issue no recorded is plain bizarre

I see your point, although where does that stop? Should you 'fess up if you don't get caught? Surely that is the logical conclusion of this position?

Nope, as I said above I'm just getting tired of hearing people whine when they get caught.
I was also surprised to hear a mod say that he thought it was ok to lie to try to keep points off a licence...ie encouraging someone to attempt to pervert the course of justice.
If you want to confess fire away, I think you know that isn't what I was suggesting.

Out of curiosity what is acceptable? Does the same apply to drink driving etc?

My position as someone who deletes spam on an internet forum has no relation with my personal views on these laws in question and my freedom to express those views. Don't start twisting my personal viewpoint into some inference that a "forum representative" is suggesting that people "pervert the course of justice".

That's all I'm going to reply on here. I'm not going to start or continue a conversation on the use of common sense in the application of law with a person in your profession Meatball, as we've both found out in the past, it achieves nothing.

to the OP - check on a dedicated site like Pepipoo for advice, but don't bun and say you never received it as you're only delyaing the inevitable (they will catch up with you) and potentially leaving yourself open to Failure to Furnish (6 points and £500min fine - MASSIVE jump in insurance for that!)

ETA - if you want/require pics - do not ask for evidence! just a polite letter asking for a picture (if available) to help identify the driver

Meatball - I cannot agree more! Guys, It's never been done (or attempted) in this country yet, but please be aware that by encouraging someone to Pervert the Course of Justice you could end up on the same charge (regardless of sitting behind a computer) and I don't think anyone wants to share the shower with big Bubba :thumbsup

Have to say, I have been done a few times over the years for speeding, and accept that if I take the decision to speed, then I run the risk of getting caught. When I have been caught, I regard it as an occupational hazard of a speeder. It is very frustrating at the time. Thankfully I have only ever had 3 points at a time on my licence, and have found that my (minor) speeding offences have had little effect on insurance costs.

Not contraversial IMHO just straight up honest advise.

Caught is caught :? its not going to be the worst punishment ever- 3 points £60? / lesson learned.

Almost every driver out there must have had points- goes with the territory these days

Three points is a luxury.

Biggest surprise was that 11 points made no difference to my insurance premium, thanks to Mary and REIS.
